Principal Engineers, Systems Design located in Herndon, VA will research, design, plan, develop and/or evaluate new, advanced network technologies by translating customer requirements or strategic business objectives into final product design for projects of highest complexity and multiple technologies.

Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Ensure appropriate testing on new devices and network advancements, including 5G Networks, Device/Chipset compatibilities with RAN Features and configurations.

• Serve as subject matter expert on RAN Features for Device Design Teams and Device OEM vendors.

• Work on Proof of concepts during early design phase to validate new 5G Features and Solutions.

• Oversee engineering projects for testing and inspections, including producing detailed reports and complex analyses of device readiness.

• Validate and Review design of Advanced 5G RAN features for upcoming device rollouts. These Features helps the network with Coverage and Capacity expansion, Network Quality and Reliability.

• Evaluate design requirements for device network compatibility and safety features, including design benefits and tradeoffs, compliance, and deployment support to ensure compliance with standards.

• Collaborate with peer groups to advance complex engineering assignments to ensure timely rollout of RAN features.

• Provide technical documentation and presentation to convey design benefits to key stakeholders.

• Complete technical assignments of high complexity regarding necessary changes to enable cybersecurity for network devices.

• Provide direction on department assignments to a team of engineers to ensure the system is fully validated in terms of security, performance, and supportability.

• Work with developers to develop tool which are required to most efficiently solve technical problems.

Specific Skills Requirement - must have educational or professional experience in:

• Must have experience working within RAN System parameters and configurations and modifying them for optimal end-user experience; conducting feasibility analysis and developing network technology tools for CAPEX and OPEX optimization. Experience with current 5G technologies and leading complex network design projects utilizing end-to-end 5G network architecture, encompassing Devices, RAN, and Core components, as well as system interactions and dependencies.

• Must have experience conducting tests, analyzing security, preparing reports, leading projects, and managing project scope, estimates, timelines, plans, and status reports using advanced engineering techniques per 3GPP standards, and collaborating with internal teams, device OEMs, and RAN vendors on 5G feature development, testing, and deployment to support business goals.

• Must have experience developing and implementing new ideas to improve existing and new processes and developing procedures to optimize the network for end-user experience. Experience working on proof of concepts to validate new network features and solutions.

• Must have experience analyzing vendor roadmaps to identify upcoming technology changes and driving improvements in design, efficiency, and quality. Evaluate technology options to support business goals, including strategic network planning, optimization and performance reporting.

• Must have experience supervising, coaching, and developing engineers and presenting complex ideas to non-technical audiences and preparing executive presentations.

• Must have experience creating and communicating advanced documentation, technical specifications, and white papers on system architecture, Features, capabilities, and limitations.

Experience and education requirements:

PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or related, and three years of relevant work experience.

ALTERNATIVE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or related, and five years of relevant work experience.

Telecommuting is permitted, but applicant must work from the worksite location at least 3-4 days per week. No additional national or international travel is anticipated.

OTHER:  Work hours: 40 hours/week. Wage Range: $161,782 to $202,900 /year.

Candidate’s pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience. At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
