PowerBI Developer (Data Engineer)

Location: Remote | Contract: 6 Months (extendable based on performance)

Type B is seeking a skilled Power BI Developer to be placed in the Technology / Data Analytics team of a prominent Canadian client. This contractor role is focused on building scalable, maintainable business intelligence solutions that support multiple departments across the organization.

As a Power BI Developer with a data engineering focus, you will design and maintain dashboards, reports, semantic layers, and data pipelines that enable reliable reporting across Finance, Procurement, Logistics, and other business functions. This role emphasizes long-term architecture, strong data foundations, and collaborative support within an existing team of three developers.

• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports for multiple departments.
  

• Design and implement data tier architecture on Snowflake, including raw tables, views, and medallion architecture patterns.
  

• Create and manage semantic layers in Power BI to structure data for business intelligence outputs.
  

• Connect Power BI to Snowflake and support data warehouse integrations.
  

• Build and manage Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines for data processing and ETL workflows.
  

• Handle API connections and other data integrations when needed.
  

• Refactor and optimize existing data structures for scalability and performance.
  

• Collaborate with current team members to onboard, support, and improve the solution.
  

• Ensure code quality and follow best practices for long-term maintainability.
  

• Strong experience building dashboards, reports, and data models in Power BI.
  

• Hands-on experience with Snowflake data warehousing, including data structuring and optimization.
  

• Solid understanding of medallion architecture, data tier design, and semantic layer development.
  

• Experience building Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines.
  

• Ownership mindset with a focus on scalable, maintainable solutions.
  

• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining accountability.
  

• Experience with HTML/CSS for complex Power BI visualizations is a plus.
  

• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and cross-functional reporting is a plus.
