The Role

Do work that matters.

At AlertMedia, everything we do supports our mission: To save lives and minimize loss by identifying active threats globally and facilitating timely communications when an emergency threatens personal safety and business continuity.

Our core values drive us in our important mission of keeping people safe:

  • We’re humans not robots
  • Customers always come first
  • We work better together
  • Simplicity is our strength
  • Our reputation is priceless
  • Hard work pays off

AlertMedia is seeking a Part-Time Contract Meteorologist to join our growing Global Intelligence Team. You will play a vital role in ensuring our customers receive timely, accurate information about major global weather events and natural disasters—along with their potential impacts on employee safety and business continuity.

This position will work 24 hours per week supporting a 24/7 operation and with a schedule that will include overnight hours and weekend days. Though a full-time, permanent role is not guaranteed, a successful candidate could be transitioned to one after several months depending on performance and business needs. Initial training will take place on weekdays, with plans to shift the position to overnight hours, Saturday through Tuesday.

As one of the fastest growing software companies in the nation, we’re focused on finding the best talent and building the best team to continue accelerating our rapid growth to keep up with our demand!

Who you are:

You are an entry-level meteorologist excited to join a growing team of hazard-focused meteorologists embedded within AlertMedia’s Global Intelligence Team. This unique role blends meteorology with high-level forecasting, natural hazard monitoring, storytelling, and journalism. You’ll assess disruptions from weather and other hazards—wildfires, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, and more—using your expertise, traditional forecasting tools, and open-source intelligence tools, including social media, to confirm real-world impacts like power outages, evacuations, and travel disruptions. You thrive in a fast-paced, breaking-news-style environment and excel at delivering timely, actionable insights.

Strong writing skills are essential, as most customer communication is through clear, concise alerts. You’re comfortable multitasking, often jumping between hazard zones as new threats emerge. You collaborate well, make sound decisions under pressure, and can work independently during overnight hours with minimal supervision. With global clients and worldwide hazard coverage, this is your chance to support life safety and business continuity on a global scale.

What you get to do every day:

  • Analyze global forecast models, radar and satellite imagery, surface observations, and official products from international meteorological agencies to identify and assess weather events that may impact our global client base.
  • Compose and deliver timely, high-urgency alerts focused on areas at risk for significant impacts. With a broad global footprint, you'll consistently monitor and prioritize multiple active systems.
  • Collaborate with Global Intelligence Analysts to guide the collection of on-the-ground impact details before, during, and after disruptive events.
  • Use social media and other open-source tools to identify and verify real-time impacts from weather and natural disasters.
  • Support senior meteorologists in responding to customer questions, creating situation reports, and assisting with briefings or webinars as needed.

What you bring to the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science
  • Strong forecasting skills with the ability to clearly communicate threats in plain language
  • Ability to multitask with keen attention to detail
  • Familiar with forecasting tools and eager to analyze global weather data while sourcing information from diverse news and open-source channels
  • Composure under pressure in a fast-paced workflow
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Excellent writing, typing, and real-time news gathering abilities
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including overnight shifts, weekends, and occasional holidays
  • While previous experience covering international weather or natural hazards through a journalistic lens isn’t required, genuine interest, enthusiasm, and a collaborative spirit will set you apart
  • Position is open for remote location except for in the following states: Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, West Virginia.

Why you’ll love working at AlertMedia:

  • Competitive base salary +  amazing rewards and incentives – we love celebrating each other
  • Commitment to community service with opportunities to give back
  • A Best Places to Work company 9 years in a row and numerous other awards
  • Access to brand new downtown office with 360-degree views of Austin, high-tech building gym, and nearby running trails
  • Ongoing career development with our Learning & Development team
