Job Summary
The Outdoor Adventures Trip Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of Outdoor Adventures trips and programs. Under the supervision of the Outdoor Adventures and Rental Center Manager, this position assists with trip logistics, participant engagement, safety procedures, and program operations to help ensure safe, inclusive, and high-quality outdoor experiences.

- Assist with program safety by following and enforcing all safety parameters and logistics set forth by the Outdoor Adventures and Rental Center Supervisor in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Student Union.
- Assist with facilitating group dynamics, trip needs, risk management procedures and emergency procedures.
- Assist the Outdoor Adventures and Rental Center Supervisor in creating an environment of learning, physical and psychological safety, and quality service on all Outdoor Adventures programmatic offerings.
- Assist in interpreting and implementing proper policies and procedures on outdoor trips as well as on campus.
- Assist the Outdoor Adventures and Rental Center Supervisor with pre-trip and post-trip administration tasks including but not limited to: designing itineraries and communicating with participants for trips.
- Assist the Outdoor Adventures and Rental Center Supervisor to ensure outdoor equipment and gear are inspected, used properly, and in a safe manner.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings, training days, and workshops.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification and Specifications
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, American Red Cross preferred, or obtain prior to first shift. Online certifications will not be accepted.
- Must be a matriculated SJSU student and continuously enrolled at least half-time* during the academic term.
- *Half-time is defined as follows: Enrollment Status Half-time Units Undergraduate and Post baccalaureate Students 6.0-8.0 hours/semester
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of general facility operations, to include basic maintenance and custodial experience preferred.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, ability to manage conflicts.
- Able to lift 45 pounds safely and stand for an extended period of time.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

- In general, the position works a schedule based on business needs 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, and may require evening and weekend work as needed.
- When school is in session - may work up to, but not in excess of 20 hours per week (among all concurrent positions).
- When classes are not in session (i.e. summer break) may work up to, but not in excess of 40 hours per week.
- This position is non-exempt from the provisions of Section 1 of the California Industrial Welfare Commission Orders.
