Position Summary:

Within the R&D Software V&V team, our goals are to be best in class in test strategy, automation, implementation, and efficiency. This senior manager role will both lead a team of operations specialists and work cross-functionally within V&V, software development teams, and leadership to define, drive, and implement operational excellence, technology, and strategy across all project workstreams. This role will also have responsibility to work and coordinate with partners across multiple sites.

The ideal candidate will be a self-driven, technical leader and expert in driving strategy, goals, and consistency across multiple projects within the organization. He/She will have a proven background in leading teams in large-scale projects, project management, vendor engagements, metrics creation, problem solving, and cross-functional leadership. They will need to use sound and proven project leadership principles, best practices, and concepts in order to influence and develop strategy, requirements, metrics, and maturity across multiple products and stakeholders including the ability to engage and manage vendor relationships, create complex project plans and track execution to the plan spanning multiple teams, resolve/optimize tradeoffs between conflicting initiatives and requirements, lead ideation, lead proof of concept, facilitate communication between functional teams, and execute.

This individual will also investigate, recommend, and bring new ideas into the organization and be hands-on from design through implementation. Working as a member of a technology team, this role will collaborate and communicate with company management, marketing, quality assurance, alliance partners and other departments and vendors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of operations specialists
  • Assess, create, and drive operational consistency across teams to create efficiency and foster excellence.
  • Facilitate software and test transformation to modern processes and practices including agile methodologies.
  • Work closely with technical experts and managers to implement a strategy that meets cross-organization objectives.
  • Work with key stakeholders, both within and outside the V&V organization, to define goals, scope, and seek alignment of key objectives.
  • Drive and implement leading edge techniques, technology, and strategy into the organization.
  • Be the focal point and go-to person for critical initiatives
  • Passionate about being a change-agent in the V&V space; Develop and lead both vision and change that benefits the entire organization.
  • Be hands-on in implementation and execution.
  • Communicate clearly, both written and verbal, to influence and discuss strategy, objectives, and tradeoffs between design options. Communicate up, down, and across the organization.
  • Understand both the technical and business aspects, including risk for the applications under test and align the design and development of test efforts accordingly
  • Understand and drive proficiency with software tools for test management, requirements management, engineering analysis, and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrate technical project management skills on multi-year projects with multi-functional teams.
  • Be a team player, teacher, coach, and lead by example.



Required Qualifications:

  • Previous management experience of cross-functional teams
  • Proven history of project and technical leadership at a high level including planning, roadmaps, budgets, and metrics.
  • Vendor / contract negotiation experience
  • Strong organization, communication and influence skills. Ability to communicate (verbal and writing) with both engineers and management up, down, and across the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and influence management skills.
  • Knowledge of SDLC.
  • Desire to work hands-on in a fast paced environment with multiple simultaneous initiatives.
  • Proficiency with software tools for requirements management, test case management, and engineering analysis.
  • Demonstrated technical project management skills on multi-year projects with multi-functional teams
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity/uncertainty and a willingness to try new/challenging things
  • Experience working in a regulated industry



Functional Description

Directs the activities of a software test development function for software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products including local, networked, cloud-based or internet-related tools. This position oversees the software analysis, design, programming, debugging, and modification. Develops quality standards for company products and oversees the development and execution of software test plans and analysis of test results. Provides guidance in the preparation of technical appraisals of programming languages and systems, computational software, and related technology. May oversee the integration of computers in the overall functions of scientific computation, data acquisition transmission, and processing. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

  • Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.
  • Requires the ability to effectively influence others and manage sensitive situations.



Judgement

  • Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives.
  • Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the organization.



Management

  • Manages activities of two or more sections or departments.
  • Directly manages the coordination of the activities within a function/department with responsibility for results.
  • In some instances may be responsible for a functional area or contracted / outsourced employees or matrixed reports and not have any direct reports within the organization.
  • People management responsibilities include hiring / terminations, performance reviews, career development coaching, and compensation decisions.



Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 13+ years of industry experience.
  • 5-8 years of previous people management experience.



Workplace Type

  • The Workplace Type for this role is Assigned Desk. Based on the nature of your role you will have an assigned desk or office located at a Dexcom site and should plan to be onsite approximately 4-5 days per week.
