What is the role?
As a Senior Director on our team, you will be a member of the Technology Strategy leadership team. This is a high transparency role and you are responsible for collaborating with the leadership teams to develop, advance and complete the enterprise strategy. This position requires a high degree of strategic competence, strong ability to collaborate horizontally, excellent influencing and leadership skills. You will lead all aspects of efforts and teams that involve encouraging and sustaining a culture of innovation, including ideation, strategy activation, other sourcing events and innovation engagement. Further, the position will coordinate aspects of project management, product management and delivery of the associated teams. You will develope vital strategy and transformation capabilities, including key repeatable processes and procedures and delivering measurable results - all in team collaboration with members of the Technology leadership team. The role also requires a strong understanding and interest in external digital and industry trends and can translate such trends into practical innovation opportunities. The role will take on efforts ranging in variety from known business issues to extremely ambiguous opportunities, experimenting at a rapid pace to find viable business solution that bring value for Northwestern Mutual.

- Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
- Outstanding leadership skills and at least 5-10 years of leading matrix teams with a passion for talent development
- 10+ years of proven experience delivering applicable innovative solutions and strategies preferably within financial services
- Strong strategic competence and prior experience designing and driving innovation efforts.
- Proven track record of delivering outcomes across interpersonal boundaries in partnership with peers and challenging partner groups.
- Broad knowledge and perspective; is future oriented; can articulately paint credible pictures and visions of possibilities and likelihoods; can build driven and breakthrough innovation strategies and plans.
- Strong communication skills with ability to influence across boundaries and build positive relationships across the enterprise and externally; has the political savvy to get work implemented across the enterprise and the ability to challenge status quo.
- Experience building and growing teams and operating models in a complex, ambiguous environment in product and strategy space.
- Ability to supervise through team performance and quantitative and qualitative measures of value, outcome, velocity, engagement, and satisfaction.
- Strong LEAN/agile/scrum delivery skills preferred
