About Your Business Area/Department:

We are looking for dynamic, creative, and resourceful individuals to join our research efforts in building efficient and innovative combinatorial algorithms for scheduling problems in the airline industry. The ideal candidate will need to be able to distill problem definitions and constraints from informal or abstract business requirements and engineering problems, handle ambiguity and competing objectives, apply theories of mathematical optimization, including linear programming, combinatorial optimization, integer programming, network flows, and algorithms to design optimal or near optimal solution methodologies. Contribute to various stages of optimization model development and deployment, provide technical support and enhancements to affiliates worldwide for deployed research applications.

Summary of the role:

With working knowledge in software development and mastery of mathematical optimization, candidate should be able to solve complex technical challenges, and innovative solutions and assisting product managers, other OR scientists to formulate programmable mathematical models to airline problems and solving them using programmable solvers

In this role you’ll:

Technical Excellence 

  • Work in each step of the product development cycle including creating technical documents, complex feasibility studies, identifying dependencies and improvements
  • Work on complex problems or changes where analysis of data requires in-depth evaluation
  • Distill problem definitions and constraints from informal or abstract business requirements and engineering problems and formalize in detailed documents
  • Investigate, analyze, and give recommendations on the complexity and solution quality of complex OR problems
  • Apply best practices on mathematical programming, code quality and high-performing code through non-functional requirements mastery, coding guidelines, unit testing, and code refactoring
  • Be the main contributor to all stages of optimization model development, testing and deployment.
  • Promote practices linked to the methodologies in use (Agile, DevOps…)
  • Ensure continuous technological watch

Innovation

  • Recommend Model improvements employing cutting-edge OR techniques
  • Foster innovation and operational performance in the deployment of new functionalities, services, and technologies
  • Establish technical standards and drive Operations Research best practices
  • Consistently create successful engagement on projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams in driving operating and service excellence

About the ideal candidate:

  • Master’s degree and minimum of 3 years working experience as full time position in field of Operational Research or completed PhD in Operational Research or industrial engineering with exposer to Discrete optimization (MIP, linear programming, etc.), Discrete Event Simulation, Applied Math, Statistics
  • Experience with Math-Programming Languages (OPL, AMPL) and Solvers (CPLEX, XPRESS, Gurobi)
  • Experience in any Object-oriented programming (C#, Java, C++, Python, etc.), data structures, algorithms
  • Experience with SQL or no-SQL database technologies
