Job purpose
The Operations Chief develops and coordinates operational plans, schedules, exercises, reports, briefs, meetings, risk assessments, and after-action products in support of Marine Corps University and Education Command objectives.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and update operational plans to support organizational goals and mission objectives.
- Coordinating with department leads to gather input and ensure alignment in the development and execution of strategic initiatives.
- Prepare detailed reports and briefs on operational activities, including progress assessments, resource utilization, and potential risks.
- Analyze current operational processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Support the planning and execution of exercises, training sessions, and contingency operations by developing scenarios, coordinating logistics, and providing administrative support.
- Maintain comprehensive records of operational plans, decisions, and outcomes for future reference.
- Facilitate regular planning meetings and briefings, preparing agendas, documenting decisions, and ensuring follow-up on action items.
- Develop and maintain a schedule for operational activities, ensuring all key milestones are tracked and met.
- Create and distribute after-action reports to document lessons learned, best practices, and areas for improvement following major operations or exercises.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate operational planning, track milestones and action items, prepare decision-support products, and support exercises or training events.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
Years of Relative Work Experience:
- Five (5) years experience providing operations, planning, program management, or administrative support within a government, military, higher education, or comparable organizational environment.
Clearance:
- Minimum Tier 1 background investigation and Government-access eligibility are required; an active Secret clearance is required before supporting classified events or tasks.
Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Five years of experience in operations, planning, program management, or administrative support
- Experience coordinating operational planning, tracking milestones and action items, and preparing decision-support products
- Experience supporting exercises or training events
- Minimum Tier 1 background investigation
- Government-access eligibility
- Active Secret clearance before supporting classified events or tasks
