About the role .
We are seeking a driven and analytical National Account Executive (Independents AU) to join our dynamic Independent Grocery retail sales team. As an essential support role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering insightful analysis, detailed reporting, and business support that underpins the effective management of our Independent Grocery (AU) channel. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams - including Demand & Supply Chain, Category, Marketing, and Finance - you will contribute to meeting financial objectives and executing channel strategies, working in partnership with the National Business and National Account Managers. This role offers the unique opportunity to develop deep channel expertise and, as you grow within the team, to engage directly with customers and strategically impact our Independent Grocery business. What you'll be doing.
  • Support the National Business Manager by assisting with administration, analysis, and reporting to achieve annual sales, volume, and profit targets.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and customer service teams to maintain high service standards with Metcash and Independent Retail partners.
  • Coordinate supply collaboration meetings with Metcash, ensuring timely supply chain inputs and managing stock forecasting requests.
  • Maintain promotional program data, pricing, and forecasts on internal and external sales tools.
  • Deliver clear and timely updates on sales forecasts, new product launches, and channel initiatives as part of the monthly planning cycle.
  • Work closely with the Pricing Team to process claims and review monthly trade spend.
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the Independent Grocery channel.
  • Contribute to joint business plans and category strategies focused on delivering market-leading growth.
  • Support the team with ad hoc tasks and contingency planning to ensure budget objectives are met.

What you'll need to be successful.
  • Degree or relevant qualification in Business, Marketing, or related field (preferred)
  • 3+ years' experience in a commercial environment, with sales experience highly regarded
  • Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and presentation abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel skills essential) and AI programs (e.g., Claude, Co-Pilot), and experience with business systems (e.g., Circana, Power BI, Vistex, SAP, TPM)
  • Experienced in numerical analysis and interpreting commercial data to identify opportunities and gaps
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a proactive approach and high level of accountability
