  • KXAN is hiring a Multiskilled Journalist to join our in-depth, investigative team in Central Texas. This position requires gathering and producing compelling content for online and on-air platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to the local news audience.  This journalist is expected to embody KXAN’s in-depth brand by providing context, clarity and deeper understanding in each report.
  • Produce and report news stories for digital and broadcast news platforms, describing the background and details of events
  • Write reports for the web and other eMedia platforms, reviewing copy to correct errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
  • Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about stories 
  • Determine a story’s emphasis, length and format, and organize material accordingly
  • Research and analyze background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information
  • Gather information about events and issues through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
  • Pitch stories to news managers and news producers which are timely and relevant to the local community
  • Receive assignments and evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas
  • Discuss issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions
  • Revise work to meet editorial approval and to fit time requirements
  • Shoot and edit video to craft news reports
  • Ensure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
  • Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting (Depending on market size)
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Superior on-air presence and delivery
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Flexibility to work any shift

Skills Required
