The Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer (T3) to lead the design, analysis, integration, and testing of complex mechanical systems and sub-assemblies for defense and aerospace applications. In this role, you will drive hardware from initial concept through detailed design, prototype fabrication, qualification testing, and production transition. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)—including systems, electrical, thermal, structural, and manufacturing engineering—to deliver high-reliability hardware meeting stringent DoD standards.
Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design & CAD: Lead the 3D modeling, layout, and detailed drafting of mechanical components, structural enclosures, ruggedized electronics packaging, or mechanism assemblies using CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or Siemens NX).
Engineering Analysis: Conduct structural, stress, thermal, dynamic, and environmental analyses (FEA/CFD) to validate mechanical designs against harsh military environments (MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-167, etc.)
Lifecycle Technical Leadership: Direct designs through formal technical reviews, including System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR).
Drawing & Tolerance Standards: Create and review engineering drawings incorporating Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 guidelines.
Prototyping & Testing: Formulate qualification and acceptance test plans, specify test tooling/fixtures, and lead hands-on testing (vibration, thermal vacuum, shock, environmental).
Vendor & Supply Chain Interface: Coordinate with internal machine shops and external suppliers to procure parts, review vendor manufacturing capabilities, and resolve non-conformances.
Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Work closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless transition from low-rate initial production (LRIP) to full-rate production.
Qualifications:
Required:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related ABET-accredited degree.
Experience: 5 to 8+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in the aerospace, defense, or government contracting sectors.
CAD Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and mechanical drawing generation (SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or Siemens NX).
Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in structural mechanics, heat transfer, dynamics, materials selection (metallics and composites), and fabrication processes (machining, sheet metal, additive manufacturing).
Standards & Processes: Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) and familiarity with military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-130 MIL-STD-461, DO-160).
Clearance Requirements: U.S. Citizenship is required. Must possess an active Secret Security Clearance, or demonstrate eligibility to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
