Job Summary: 

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, applicant will be responsible for supporting scopes of work activities associated with composite components, assemblies, and machines in the Centrifuge Project. Provides support to the Centrifuge Program to accomplish goals and objectives while ensuring compliance to Centrus standards and practices.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Act as the lead engineer for composite part design, fabrication and test
  • Assist in designing, building, and troubleshooting the following
    • High vacuum systems 
    • Helium leak detection equipment
    • Machined parts and assemblies
  • Assist in design and analysis of structural and dynamic systems
  • Design manufacturing equipment as needed for manufacturing activities
  • Develop specifications for fabricated materials and equipment
  • Assist in the creation, review, and approval of engineering packages to be used for fabrication
  • Establish procedures for assembly and repair of fabricated components
  • Drive process improvement activities for internal activities and external suppliers
  • Manage multiple priorities and ensure that deliverables are met within schedule and budget
  • Adheres to company policies, procedures, code of conduct, security, and environmental and safety program requirements
  • Contribute to cross functional teams including design, engineering, manufacturing, operations, testing, quality and purchasing

We'd Love to Hear from Candidates With:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in a professional environment designing and manufacturing large composite parts (a Master's may be used to substitute for 2 years' experience)

Stronger Candidates will Have:

  • Experience using FEA (Ansys experience is a plus)
  • Masters degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 5+ years CAD experience (SolidWorks experience a plus)
  • Experience with lean manufacturing
  • Project Management experience
  • Preference will be given to applicants currently holding an active DOE Q-level security clearance
  • Centrifuge design, test, and/or manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Experience with QL-1 or QL-2 quality parts/systems

This position will require a pre­-employment background check and a pre-employment drug test.

This position requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a Q security clearance.  Candidates for positions requiring a security clearance are required to be tested for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR 707.4 prior to an offer of employment being made.  In addition, once employed, employees will become part of a random drug testing program and may also be tested in the event of any incident causing injury or causing damage to property, or if it is determined that there is a reasonable suspicion the employee is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  This position will require preemployment background check on the part of the Company and in order to receive a Q security clearance, a background investigation by the Federal government.  Subsequent Federal government reinvestigations may be required.
