About this opportunity:
Digital Front-End (DFE) hardware processes digital signals in communication systems. A DFE subsystem may include data paths, control logic, interfaces, and signal-processing functions. The design must work correctly during normal operation and handle corner cases, unexpected inputs, and error conditions.
Hardware verification is challenging because many input combinations and operating conditions must be tested. A systematic approach is needed to connect system requirements and design specifications to test scenarios, assertions, coverage goals, and other verification activities.
This thesis will develop and evaluate a methodology for using AI tools to create verification material for one representative DFE processing subsystem. The exact subsystem and input material will be selected with the supervisor based on the project scope and suitability for the study.
The objective of this thesis is to develop and evaluate a methodology for using AI tools to derive verification material for one DFE hardware block selected for study. The method will use system requirements and design specifications as input to create initial versions of the verification plan, test scenarios, assertions, testbench components, and other verification outputs. These outputs will then be reviewed, refined, and validated against the requirements, design, and available reference material.
What you will do:
- Verification plan: Use the methodology to derive verification objectives, test scenarios, checking methods, coverage goals, and traceability to the requirements.
- Corner cases and stimulus: Use AI tools to identify important corner cases and develop directed and constrained random test stimuli.
- Assertions: Generate System Verilog Assertions for interfaces, control logic, data processing, timing, and error handling, followed by technical review.
- Testbench: Create or prototype a suitable testbench structure with drivers, monitors, checkers, scoreboards, and test control.
- Reference model: Investigate whether a functional reference model can be generated or adapted for comparison with the RTL implementation.
- Evaluation: Assess the AI-generated verification material for correctness, completeness, traceability, and usefulness in simulation.
- Thesis document: Describe the methodology, results, limitations, and recommendations for future work.
The skills you bring:
- Master's student in electrical/computer engineering, embedded systems, or similar.
- Digital design and computer architecture fundamentals.
- Experience with System Verilog and RTL simulation tools.
- Basic knowledge of digital signal processing or communication systems.
- Understanding verification concepts such as assertions, coverage, scoreboards, and reference models.
- Programming experience in Python, C/C++, or a similar language.
- Ability to understand requirements and design specifications.
- Good analytical, communication, and documentation skills in English.
- Nice to have: Experience with UVM, formal verification, testbench development, scripting, AI data processing pipelines, prompt design, or hands-on experience with AI- tools.
