We are shaping the future of digital connectivity the world relies on.
The Role
Develop and evaluate a cost-effective Android APK traffic model generator using commercial or pre-commercial hardware. The simulator should reproduce traffic from multiple mobile devices with varied behaviors. The project includes defining traffic scenarios, troubleshooting functionality, assessing hardware capacity, evaluating scenario realism and dynamic behavior, and analyzing total cost of ownership. The candidate will explore the solution’s feasibility for testing mobile telecommunications systems.

About this opportunity
When testing advanced algorithms for optimizing data traffic mobile telephone systems there is a wide range of tools used. Quite often these tools are expensive and based on relatively small series of HW and SW. Commercial phones, on the other hand, is built in large series and, in spite of what we as customers might think, are relatively cheap for what you get. The opportunity for this master thesis is to build and evaluate an cost effective solution for traffic generations on a commercial HW.
What you will do
This Master Thesis aims to investigate how far we can reach in simulating traffic models using commercial, or pre-commercial, HW. The simulator should be able to generate traffic corresponding to multiple phones (UEs) with different behaviour.
You will have freedom to define areas of exploration within the project. These could include, but are not limited to:
  • Determining what is required for a successful live demonstration.
  • What ways would be efficient to configure multi traffic scenarios
  • What type of functionality would be needed to support trouble shooting of the generator and the system under test.
  • Will the solution provide a cost-efficient way of testing considering total cost of ownership.
  • Will the HW capacity be sufficient for current and future needs.
  • How realistic will the scenarios be and how much dynamic behaviour makes sense to use.

The skills you bring
  • Knowledge in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in at least one programming language (Python not mandatory).
  • Eagerness to learn and explore new concepts.
  • Bonus: experience in machine learning and telecom
