Job Summary:
The Special Projects Specialist is responsible for coordinating and executing a variety of special projects across Hickmans Egg Ranch. This role involves supporting construction, maintenance, and operational initiatives that fall outside the scope of routine activities. The Special Projects Specialist will work closely with different departments to ensure the timely completion of projects, providing technical expertise, hands-on labor, and project management support as needed.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assist in planning and executing special projects related to construction, facility upgrades, equipment installations, and other operational improvements.
  • Provide hands-on labor and technical support for project-related tasks, including operating mechanical tools and equipment.
  • Coordinate with various departments (e.g., Maintenance, Operations, Logistics) to ensure project goals and timelines are met.
  • Monitor project progress, report on key milestones, and address any issues or delays.
  • Ensure that all project activities adhere to company safety policies, biosecurity protocols, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized worksite during project execution, ensuring that all tools, materials, and equipment are handled safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in sourcing materials and equipment required for special projects, ensuring timely delivery and proper inventory management.
  • Conduct site inspections to identify project needs, develop work plans, and ensure work is completed to specification.
  • Assist with budgeting and cost management for special projects, tracking expenses and ensuring efficient resource use.
  • Collaborate with external contractors or vendors when necessary to ensure specialized tasks are completed to company standards.
  • Support the Special Projects Manager or Operations Manager in project planning, documentation, and reporting.
QualificationsRequirements and Skills:
  • Proven experience in construction, maintenance, or a similar role, preferably in an agricultural or food production setting.
  • Basic knowledge of construction practices, mechanical hand tools, and equipment operation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise during project execution.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including frequent standing, bending, and lifting.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members, management, and external contractors.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and practices, particularly in construction or agricultural environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and working in various outdoor environments.
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold, and in dusty or noisy environments.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, power tools, and operate equipment safely.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in special projects or construction in agricultural settings.
  • Familiarity with biosecurity protocols and farm safety standards.
