BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as Manufacturing Engineer at our new production plant in Viana, Portugal.

Key responsibilities

  • Owns the end-to-end manufacturing solution from business case development to high-volume production.
  • Leads the definition, procurement, installation, and qualification of equipment, ensuring adherence to specifications, timelines, and budgets.
  • Coordinates with external suppliers from design through qualification phases.
  • Designs flexible manufacturing systems to meet internal and customer requirements.
  • Provides expert consultation to product development teams on manufacturability and assembly (DFMA) best practices.
  • Owns the responsibility to plan and ensure component availability for equipment validation/qualification and OTS (Off Tool Samples)
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive process documentation, including Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, poke yoke, parameters sheets and others.
  • Ensures documentation is accurate and compliant to support production needs.
  • Leads DR (Design Review),  FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) activities and documents registration, ensuring that production processes meet performance and quality standards.
  • Ensures MSA, long term capability, R&R.
  • Identifies and implements process enhancements, analyses equipment effectiveness, and drives cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Supports cross-functional teams in implementing corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring issues. Utilizes problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, PDCA, 5Whys, Failure Tree Analysis and Fishbone Analysis to identify root causes, implement countermeasures, and ensure process sustainability.
  • Comply with environmental, health and safety, quality and productivity standards
  • Comply with the organization's rules and internal regulations: Code of Ethics, Practice and Schedule
  • Respect workplace safety and cleanliness rules
  • Respect and comply with environmental policy rules
  • Perform other tasks not included in the activity for which he was hired, when the needs or convenience of the service justify it, for the period necessary for the said needs or conveniences of service

Education & Experience

  • Academic Background: Master of Sciences in Mechanical, Eletronics or Automation Engineering.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience of Manufacturing Engineering in automotive or mass production environment
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills (8D, Shainin or Six Sigma training a plus)
  • Deep knowledge and exposure to some of the following technologies: automatic assembly, screw driving, air leak testing, laser welding, Siemens Step7 PLC control programming, robotics and vision applications will be a plus.
  • Ability to read, and preferably create, comprehensive mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings and schematics using specified software (ex. AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Solid understanding of Engineering financials (Cap-Ex Planning and equipment costing)
  • Knowledge in PowerBi will be valued

Skills Required
