Location: North Hills, NY
Company: Dealertrack (a Cox Automotive brand)
About the Role:
Dealertrack is seeking a passionate and technically adept Engineering Manager to lead our Networks and Platform engineering team. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment and is excited about building scalable web applications and APIs that power the future of automotive financing. As Cox Automotive evolves toward AI-assisted, spec-driven development practices, you will play a key role in guiding your team through this transformation-championing specification quality, enabling cross-team collaboration, and ensuring AI-generated code meets our engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development
- Build and lead a high-performing, cross-functional Scrum team.
- Mentor and coach engineers to grow their technical and professional skills.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability.
- Technical Execution
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from planning to deployment and maintenance.
- Ensure high-quality design and implementation of scalable web applications and APIs.
- Advocate for and implement best practices in cloud-native development using AWS.
- Champion spec-driven development workflows, ensuring that detailed Change Specs are collaboratively authored before code generation begins.
- Establish and maintain component constitutions-the documented standards, patterns, and rules that guide AI-assisted code generation for your team's repositories.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with product managers, architects, and other stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to align on goals, timelines, and deliverables.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Innovation & Learning
- Stay current with emerging technologies in AI-assisted development, cloud computing, and spec-driven delivery models.
- Encourage experimentation with AI coding tools and workflows; share learnings across teams rather than allowing patterns to diverge.
- Promote a learning culture within the team and across the Release Train, including cross-team knowledge sharing of effective specifications and anti-patterns.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience leading engineering teams in an Agile environment.
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience in:
- AWS cloud services
- API design and web application architecture
- Modern programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript)
- Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle and DevOps practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Passion for mentoring and developing engineering talent.
- Comfort guiding teams through AI-assisted development practices, including reviewing AI-generated code and implementation plans for quality and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the automotive finance or risk management domain.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) and spec-driven or AI-assisted development workflows.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience creating or governing component-level documentation artifacts (constitutions, architecture overviews, operational runbooks) that enable cross-team portability.
