Purpose:
Protect the interests of the Group (SriLankan Airlines and its subsidiaries) from a legal and liability perspectives in all activities carried out by the Group on a continuous basis in order to mitigate the exposure to the Group in terms of risks and liabilities.
Key responsibilities will include;
- Draft, review and negotiate contracts and other documents to be entered into by the Group on a regular basis in order to ensure that the Group's interest in terms of legal and liability exposure under those documents are minimized, based on the policies, industry practices and standards of the Group.
- To handle, manage and monitor all litigation and other forms of dispute resolution matters of the Group in judicial and non-judicial forums in Sri Lanka and overseas continuously and centrally in order to ensure that risks to the Group from litigation and disputes are minimized, controlled and monitored.
- To liaise with external legal counsel on a continuous basis, attend consultations, finalizing documents to be filed in Court in time, attend hearings, producing witnesses and appropriate evidence in time, adhere to timelines given by the Court and maintain in-house case files in order to ensure that all legal matters are diligently attended.
- Take steps to protect the intellectual property rights of the Group by registering the intellectual properties of the Group where necessary as required by the respective jurisdictions as and when necessary and administering those registrations continuously.
- Provide advice to internal departments of the Group on a day-to-day basis in order to ensure the Group carries out its activities in compliance with statutory requirements, industry norms and contractual obligations.
- Prepare conditions precedent/subsequent to comply with major international contracts in order to ensure that Company honors its contractual obligations.
- Maintain and monitor claims by and against the Group and take appropriate action to defend claims filed against the Group and to recover monies due to the Group from the claims filed by the Group.
- Attend to all conveyancing requirements of the Group.
- To keep abreast with developments in Aviation Law, Commercial & Corporate Law, Law of Contracts and Labour Law and practices, and to monitor and report on the latest air transportation regulatory developments initiated by IATA , ICAO and other international bodies.
Requirements
- Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in law from a recognized university with 10 years of post-qualifying experience with a minimum of 05 years at Managerial level in a reputable law firm or as an in-house corporate counsel in a reputable organization with sound experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
*Experience in Aviation law, Trademark registration locally and internationally will be added advantages.
Age to be not more than 45 years as at 23rd August 2026 which is the closing date.

Skills Required
