Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Manager of Desktop Engineering to lead our End-User Computing (EUC) team. This individual will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational excellence, and lifecycle management of our corporate desktop environments. You will manage a talented team of four engineers responsible for maintaining and enhancing our Windows, macOS, and Linux endpoints. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep technical expertise, a passion for automation, and a commitment to providing an exceptional user experience.
What You'll Do
- Team Leadership & Mentorship:
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of 4 desktop engineers, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous learning
- Set clear team goals, conduct regular performance reviews, and support the professional development of your team members
- Manage team workload, prioritize projects, and ensure effective resource allocation
- Strategy & Architecture:
- Develop and execute a long-term roadmap for the end-user computing environment, aligning with business objectives and technology trends
- Architect and standardize desktop solutions, including OS imaging, software deployment, patch management, roles based confiugrations, and security configurations across Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement new tools and technologies to improve automation, security, and operational efficiency
- Operational Management:
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of all corporate endpoints, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, and retirement
- Ensure the security and compliance of the desktop fleet by managing the deployment of endpoint protection, data encryption, and vulnerability remediation
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues, providing expert-level guidance and resolution
- Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, processes, and support procedures
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand user needs and translate into scalable desktop solutions, enhancing productivity and user satisfaction
- Project & Vendor Management:
- Lead and manage key projects, such as operating system upgrades, hardware refresh cycles, and new software implementations
- Collaborate closely with other IT teams (e.g., Security, Networking, Infrastructure) to deliver integrated and seamless solutions
- Manage relationships with hardware and software vendors, overseeing procurement, licensing, and support contracts
- Performs other duties as assigned by immediate manager or management team
We're Excited to Learn More About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Can work remotely or from an Applied office
- 7+ years of progressive experience in IT with a focus on desktop engineering, systems administration, or end-user computing
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role, with a proven track record of building and developing technical teams
- Extensive hands-on experience managing a diverse, multi-platform environment including Windows, macOS, and Linux
- Expert knowledge of modern endpoint management platforms (e.g., Microsoft Intune/SCCM, Jamf Pro, Kandji)
- Strong experience with automated OS deployment technologies (e.g., Windows Autopilot, Apple Automated Device Enrollment/DEP)
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python
- Solid understanding of core IT infrastructure concepts, including Active Directory, Azure AD, networking protocols, and enterprise security principles
- Holds at least two relevant certifications/licenses: MCSE or MCSA strongly preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Our targeted starting base salary in the United States for this position ranges from $115,000 - $140,000. To determine a new team member's starting pay, we consider a variety of factors, including someone's depth, breadth, and variety of experience, skills, and responsibilities. Depending on the role, team members may also be eligible to participate in additional compensation plans such as bonus and commission.
