Job Description

  • The Lab Machinist position is responsible for performing precision machining operations on material and test samples.

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.

  • Machine parts to specifications using manual and/or CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.

  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and project manager's information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Prepare samples according to ASTM and ASME standards & customer requirements.
  • Confer with project manager, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.
  • Responsible for completion of task safety evaluations, near miss and hazard reporting as required.

Qualifications

  • Education: a certified journeyperson, holding a valid recognized credential (or more than 5 years of practical experience in machining)
  • Experience : 2 years experience minimum

Skills Required
