The Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and CNC machine tools to manufacture precision components that meet engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. The Machinist interprets blueprints, selects appropriate tooling, performs dimensional inspections, troubleshoots machining issues, and ensures parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and safely. This role supports production, prototype development, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with company quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Program and operate a variety of equipment including mills, drills, lathes, presses, grinders and other machining centers.
  • Multi-tasks between products to maintain product flow to meet deadlines for downstream processes.
  • Maintains quality service by adhering to organization standards.
  • Provides Machine Shop information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing performance records and data.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by using all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Resolves problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.
  • Champion the 5S and safety initiatives in Machine Shop.  Support other lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Authority:

  • Stop any nonconforming process(es) which may affect poor quality or customer satisfaction
  • Report any halted nonconforming process(es) to production manager, quality department, and/or process engineer.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, and five (5) years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Must be authorized to work and reside in the US and must be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government to confirm with but not limited to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR), but not limited to U.S. export (ITAR) guidelines.

Knowledge, ability and skills:

  • Program via CAD/CAM software.
  • Conversational and Macro Programming
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to read and understand operating instructions, procedures, and manuals
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to solve basic math problems
  • Regularly required to sit, talk and hear
  • Frequently required to walk or smell
  • Occasional standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to hold extremely tight tolerances
  • Must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to work with moderate level of noise
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma, GED, and five years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Authorized to work and reside in the US and eligible for required U.S. government export control authorizations (ITAR compliance)
  • Experience programming and operating manual and CNC mills, lathes, drills, presses, grinders and other machining centers
  • Proficiency programming via CAD/CAM software
  • Conversational and macro CNC programming skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings and perform dimensional inspections
  • Ability to hold extremely tight tolerances and troubleshoot machining issues
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and work independently with little to no supervision
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Able to regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds and meet listed physical and vision requirements
