Title: Machinist
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under direct supervision, performs skilled bench machine, power and hand tool work in the assembly, fabrication, installation and repair of various types of metal parts and machine equipment. Performs related duties as assigned or required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Locates operating defects in, disassembles, adjusts, repairs, constructs, installs and assembles machinery and tools such as pumps, compressors, generators, small engine equipment hoists, metal machinery, printing machinery, air tools and related equipment.
- Does lathes operating, milling, welding, cutting, planning, shaping, sizing, boring, punching, filing, broaching and grinding.
- Executes machine work and fabrication of metal parts in accordance with prescribed drawings, specifications, rough sketches, oral instructions, or models.
- Maintains tools and equipment clean and in usable condition. Submits daily written reports of work performed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: Completion of an approved apprenticeship training program in machinist work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the assembly, fabrication, installation and repair of various machines and hand tools. Skill in the assembly, fabrication, installation and repair of various machines and hand tools. Ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders and to read and interpret drawings, specifications and sketches.
