OVERVIEW:
The Machinist is responsible for the safe setup, operation, and maintenance of manual and/or CNC machine tools used to manufacture, repair, and modify components to required specifications. This position supports production objectives by performing machining operations, interpreting engineering drawings, maintaining quality standards, and promoting a safe and productive work environment. Candidates with varying levels of machining experience are encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Promote safety and maintain a clean, organized work environment at all times.
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, goals, and initiatives.
• Operate manual and/or CNC machine tools to perform machining operations according to specifications.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and shop travelers.
• Perform basic to advanced mathematical and geometric calculations required for machining activities.
• Set up and secure workpieces, tooling, and fixtures safely and correctly.
• Monitor machining processes and make adjustments as necessary to maintain quality standards.
• Inspect finished work using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, depth micrometers, and other inspection tools.
• Complete required production, inspection, and quality documentation accurately.
• Perform routine maintenance and housekeeping on assigned equipment and work areas.
• Operate shop support equipment such as cranes, forklifts, grinders, drills, and other machinery as authorized.
• Assist with rigging, lifting, and movement of large components and castings safely.
• Identify tooling wear or equipment issues and communicate corrective actions.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
• Support training and knowledge sharing within the department as experience and skill level permit.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Technical training, vocational education, apprenticeship, or machining certification preferred.
Experience:
• Previous machining experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment preferred.
• Experience operating manual and/or CNC machine tools is preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments.
• Experience with overhead cranes, rigging, and material handling equipment is a plus.
• Experience levels ranging from entry-level to highly skilled machinists will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality.
• Ability to learn machining processes and equipment.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
