As a Lead Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and building scalable backend systems that power HERE's Last Meter services. You will lead technical direction, contribute to architecture decisions, and work closely with cross-functional engineering and product teams.
This role is backend-focused with a strong emphasis on TypeScript (Node.js) and cloud-native development.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop scalable backend services using TypeScript and Node.js.
- Build and maintain high-performance REST APIs used by web and mobile applications.
- Architect and optimize data storage solutions using PostgreSQL (AWS RDS).
- Deploy and operate services in Kubernetes environments.
- Collaborate with frontend, mobile, and platform teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Lead engineering best practices, including code quality, reviews, testing, and CI/CD.
- Contribute to system design, scalability, and performance optimization.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership within the team.

NOTE: This is an individual contributor role.
Who are you?- 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong full-stack web development skills.
- Strong experience in TypeScript / Node.js backend development.
- Proven experience building and scaling RESTful APIs.
- Experience and motivation to use agentic coding harnesses (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot).
- Experience working with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or similar).
- Solid understanding of system design, scalability, and performance.
- A product-focused individual with great communication skills in English.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Python for data processing, analytics, or automation.
- Exposure to data engineering and machine learning workflows.
- Experience with Redis or caching strategies.
- Familiarity with real-time or location-based systems.
