Job Summary:

The Lead Operations Specialist is responsible for coordinating and driving day-to-day operational flow across shelter assembly, cable assembly, and network testing to meet throughput, quality, and safety objectives. This role focuses on cross-functional planning, priority setting, escalation management, and continuous improvement, working closely with Assembly Leads, vendors, Industrial Engineering, Quality, and other stakeholders to remove barriers to production and accelerate workflows.

The role does not have direct supervisory responsibility for labor; rather it ensures consistent execution through coordination, standards, and independent judgment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own operational flow and throughput for shelter assembly, cable assembly, and network/power testing by coordinating work plans, staffing needs, and production priorities across teams.
  • Translate production demand forecasts into effective operational execution strategies by determining labor allocation approaches, aligning workforce capabilities to production volume, and adjusting operational coverage to meet throughput and delivery objectives.
  • Serve as the primary operational escalation and coordination authority for cross-functional production issues; exercise independent judgment to resolve workflow disruptions, reprioritize operational activities, and implement corrective actions necessary to maintain production continuity.
  • Drive execution oversight and status reporting, monitor KPIs (throughput, labor efficiency, quality, safety), identify risks/trends, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Design and implement workspace changes, process improvements, and selective automation initiatives to reduce labor hours, improve operational flow and increase production efficiency in partnership with Industrial Engineering, Quality, and vendors.
  • Coordinate workforce onboarding and training initiatives with leads and HR while ensuring consistent application of standard work, operational procedures, 5S methodology, and quality control standards across production activities.
  • Act as operational escalation owner for attendance, performance, workflow and execution-related incidents; partner with HR and operational leadership to address employee relations concerns, operational disruptions, and performance-related risks.
  • Facilitate cross-functional operational planning and production review meetings while maintaining oversight of production tracking systems, work orders, or ERP/MRP transactions, workflow status reporting, and operational forecasting accuracy.
  • Exercise discretion in balancing competing operational priorities, reallocating workflow resources, and determining appropriate escalation paths to minimize production disruption and achieve operational objectives.

Managerial Responsibility

  • This role has no direct reports.

Travel/Shift Requirements

  • Assigned to 1st Shift operating on a rotating 12-hour 2-2-3 schedule from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, including required weekend coverage as part of the standard rotation.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Non-temperature-controlled warehouse environment; exposure to seasonal heat and cold.
  • Frequent floor presence with extended periods of walking/standing; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.

Skills and Abilities Required

  • Proven ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and make timely prioritization/escalation decisions.
  • Strong operational planning skills, data-driven decision making, and experience tracking KPIs.
  • Effective communicator with frontline staff and leadership; able to lead cross-functional meetings and gain alignment.
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools, basic measurement techniques, and ability to read engineering drawings/schematics.
  • Experience with production tracking systems, ERP/MRP, work orders, or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with 5S, standard work, and continuous improvement methodologies preferred.

Education and Experience Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade training preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in assembly, manufacturing, or telecom infrastructure operations.
  • 2+ years leading or coordinating cross‑functional teams or projects (not necessarily direct supervisory headcount).
  • Experience in structured manufacturing environments with defined processes and metrics preferred.

What We Do

Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, Telamon-Transition Resources Corporation (TRC) is a 501(c)(3) private non-profit organization that provides educational services through early childhood and family support programs, workforce and career services, and housing and financial empowerment services to nearly 24,000 individuals a year in eleven states. MISSION: Our mission is to provide educational services that lead to better jobs, better lives, and better communities. HISTORY: Since our beginnings in 1965 as the Migrant Project of the North Carolina Council of Churches, we have grown into a large, stable organization with diverse funding from federal and state governments, as well as substantial partnerships with private foundations. We became a HUD certified National Intermediary in the Housing Counseling sector, and we provide community action services through projects in West Virginia and North Carolina. In 2014, Telamon began providing financial literacy services to families and staff in our Delaware Head Start programs through an innovative partnership with the State of Delaware's $tand By Me program. In 2016, our Governing Board and executive leadership set a strategic goal of growing our services by embedding financial empowerment for customers and staff into all our lines of business.
