Lead Engineer – MCA SW Verification

Who will you be working with?

You will work with the Controls Engineering and Validation teams, collaborating with system engineers, software developers, lab teams, and global stakeholders. This role also interfaces with external partners and cross-functional teams involved in design, testing, and deployment.

How will you make a difference?

As a Senior Software Engineer focused on IV&V (Integration, Verification & Validation), you will ensure the reliability and quality of locomotive control software prior to deployment. You will lead the development and execution of test strategies across multiple platforms, including HITL, MITL, and real locomotive environments. This role is critical in validating system performance, identifying defects, and supporting continuous improvement of testing methodologies, contributing directly to safe and robust product delivery.

What do we want to know about you?

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
• Large experience in design, testing, or validation engineering.
• Strong experience with IV&V activities and system-level validation.
• Hands-on experience with HITL, MITL, SITL, or system-level testing (Rail or Automotive preferred).
• Experience developing test procedures for control software and embedded systems.
• Strong understanding of control systems and communication protocols (RS232/422, CAN, Ethernet).
• Experience with test life cycle tools (e.g., ClearQuest or equivalent).
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work hands-on in lab and field (locomotive) environments.
• Availability to travel (<25%).

Desired Characteristics:

• Experience with SysML tools (MagicDraw, DOORS or equivalent).
• Experience with automation tools (Python, Simulink Test, NI LabVIEW).
• Knowledge of locomotive control systems or complex embedded systems.
• Experience with test automation frameworks and solutions.
• Familiarity with application lifecycle management (ALM) tools.
• Experience in areas such as engine control, traction systems, or battery management. systems

What will your typical day look like?

• Review system requirements and functional specifications to define test strategies.
• Develop and maintain test plans and procedures using tools like MagicDraw and DOORS.
• Execute tests on HITL, MITL, and locomotive environments.
• Analyze results and approve software readiness for deployment.
• Create and track defects/deviations, ensuring proper resolution through lifecycle tools.
• Develop automation scripts for testing, data collection, and reporting.
• Perform system-level validation against requirements and interface specifications.
• Support creation and optimization of test environments and setups.
• Collaborate with internal and external teams to identify and resolve issues.
• Generate status reports and communicate risks and progress.
• Improve testing processes, tools, and methodologies continuously.
• Contribute independently to technical decisions and program objectives.
