The Advanced Programs Aerodynamic Design Lead Engineer is responsible for leading the invention, aerodynamic design, development, integration, and testing of advanced military propulsion technologies, with a focus on augmentors, exhaust nozzles, inlets, and exhaust aero systems. This role drives conceptual and detailed aerodynamic design, including flow path development, non-reacting and reacting CFD analysis, and rig and engine test support, while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to mature technologies from early concepts into fielded solutions for advanced military applications. Essential Responsibilities:
- Aerodynamic design engineering ownership of miltary engine augmentors & exhaust systems including engineering design, analysis, and test support.
- Support cross functional team as needed for augmentor and nozzle aero design & test monitoring
- Execution of complex projects, while managing program schedule and financial work scope to meet business needs Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned individual and team projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
- Complete technical and program reviews with senior leadership teams & customers
- Influence, coordinate, and lead teams toward complex goals
- Develop action plans with guidance to respond to issues/ problems while proactively communicating with key stakeholders
- Lead or participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
- Recommend, with guidance, the approach to meet the technical and program requirements
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical, Mechanical, or closely related field of Engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant aero design experience.
- This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold US Government Security Clearance
Desired Characteristics:
- Advanced degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering related to fluid mechanics preferred
- Prior experience in the fundamentals of aerodynamics and compressible flows.
- Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
- Experience with design and analysis software such as Siemens NX, Ansys Workbench, Ansys CFX, Ansys Fluent, Python, etc.
- Effective in contributing in a structured, cross functional teamwork environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Fundamental understanding of augmentors and exhaust nozzle system design.
- Familiarity with aero design, tools, and processes.
