Team Overview
Trusted Call Solutions This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.Role Overview And Core Responsibilities
TransUnion is seeking a Lead Software Development Engineer to help shape, build, and evolve enterprise-grade applications within our Trusted Call Solutions and Mobile Messaging product portfolio, including KONTXT-brand products, Branded Messaging, and Messaging Fraud Protection capabilities.
Required Knowledge And Experiences
Key Responsibilities- Lead the technical design, architecture, and implementation of enterprise-grade Java and Spring-based applications.
- Architect, write, and review technical specifications for new components, integrations, APIs, data flows, and system enhancements.
- Design and evolve production, development, and QA Java environments, including application server patterns, APIs, n-tier designs, integration patterns, and operational support models.
- Provide hands-on development for complex components while guiding other engineers through design, coding, testing, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, QA, operations, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Review current systems and programs, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend practical modernization, performance, reliability, and maintainability enhancements.
- Analyze and optimize application performance, identify bottlenecks, and lead improvements to speed, scalability, and reliability.
- Provide day-to-day escalated application troubleshooting for complex issues across distributed services, messaging systems, databases, APIs, and cloud-connected environments.
- Create and maintain technical specifications, nonfunctional specifications, estimates, implementation plans, and design documentation.
- Help shape and promote engineering strategy, Agile/Scrum practices, QA procedures, code quality standards, and release-readiness expectations.
- Mentor engineers, provide code and design review feedback, and raise the technical bar for the team.
- Provide DevOps consultation when needed, including deployment, operational readiness, monitoring, alerting, automation, and supportability considerations.
- 9+ years of experience designing and developing Spring-based Java services.
- Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Web, Spring Security, Spring Data, Kafka, and Cassandra.
- Strong fluency in object-oriented design, microservices architecture, distributed systems, and applicable Java technologies.
- Proven ability to design and deliver scalable, reliable, production-grade backend services and RESTful APIs.
- Experience creating technical specifications, architecture documentation, nonfunctional requirements, and implementation estimates.
- Strong understanding of data-intensive systems, messaging platforms, data storage and retrieval patterns, performance optimization, and production troubleshooting.
- Strong Linux skills.
- Familiarity with AWS or comparable cloud technology.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, influence architecture, and guide engineers without relying solely on formal authority.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across engineering, product, QA, operations, architecture, and business teams.
- Familiarity with Spark or similar distributed data-processing technologies.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or container orchestration platforms.
- Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure automation, test automation, and deployment standardization.
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or similar platforms.
- Experience with telecommunications, mobile messaging, fraud prevention, identity, STIR/SHAKEN, SIP, API security, or related communications technologies.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems into cloud-ready or cloud-native service architectures.
- Experience leading technical delivery across geographically distributed teams.
