Junior Bioinformatician Intern

Complete an internship project at SOPHiA GENETICS whose mission is to build the future of AI-assisted medicine, joining the Bioinformatics Services Team as a Junior Bioinformatician Intern.

Your mission: 

You will be involved in supporting the client-facing bioinformatics team by analyzing data from clients in the process of implementing a SOPHiA-powered assay – i.e. clients going through MaxCare programs. This includes running NGS pipelines, curating variants, and assisting in the creation of client-facing presentations. 

You will be involved in: 

• Receiving training on MaxCare programs, including NGS pipeline operations and release procedures. 

• Running NGS pipelines for MaxCare programs to support accurate variant analysis. 

• Curating and analyzing confirmed variants submitted by MaxCare users, leveraging the non-regression system. 

• Assisting in preparing client-facing presentations for the MaxCare program. 

• Joining MaxCare client calls in an observer role to gain firsthand experience with client interactions. 

The experience you bring:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Life Science, Biology or Bioinformatics 

• Proficient in version control systems, specifically Git. 

• Comfortable using the command line for task execution and automation. 

• Experience with NGS data analysis is a plus. 

• Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal. 

• Ability to prioritize the tasks effectively, and work both independently and as part of a team. 

What you will learn: 

• Product development procedures, including client-facing bioinformatics products. 

• Running NGS pipelines and performing variant analysis. 

• Collaborative development using Gitlab. 

• Client interaction skills through observer roles in MaxCare program calls. 

Start: Jan 2025 

Contract type: 6-month internship
