Junior Accountant

They specialise in delivering end-to-end solar solutions through scalable and cost-effective platforms, positioning them as a leading provider of solar home systems and energy services in the region.

Role Summary

Our client is seeking a Junior Accountant to support the Finance Lead with the day-to-day accounting operations of the business. This is a hands-on role suited to someone early in their finance career who wants to build strong foundational experience, reconciliations, transaction processing, and reporting support , inside a fast-growing, mission-driven solar energy business. The systems and processes are already in place; this role is about executing them accurately, consistently, and with close attention to detail, under the guidance of the Finance Lead.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Financial Operations

• Process journals, accruals, and reconciliations as part of the month-end close, to the standard set by the Finance Lead

• Support daily reconciliation of PAYG transactions against ANGAZA and bank records

• Assist in maintaining the dual-currency (NGN/USD) accounting records

• Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring invoices and payments are up to date with no backlogs

• Follow all payment approval processes and internal controls without exception

• Maintain accurate, well-organised financial records and supporting documentation

Reporting Support

• Assist in preparing daily and weekly system-generated financial reports for the Finance Lead's review

• Support preparation of monthly management accounts

• Ensure financial data feeding into management dashboards is accurate and current

Compliance and Controls

• Support FIRS filings (VAT, WHT, CIT) under the Finance Lead's guidance, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

• Maintain audit-ready documentation and support the external audit process

• Assist with PFA pension remittances and other statutory deductions

• Follow internal financial controls and escalate any discrepancies promptly

• Support the Finance Lead with ad hoc financial tasks and analysis as needed

• Take on increasing responsibility as skills and experience grow

Education, Qualification and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics

• ICAN/ACCA part-qualified, or actively studying towards qualification, preferred

• 1-3 years of relevant finance/accounting experience

• Hands-on experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close support

• Working knowledge of FIRS compliance requirements (VAT, WHT, CIT)

• Proficient in Excel; familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)

• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills

• Based in, or willing to work from, Abuja

Strongly Preferred

• Exposure to dual-currency (NGN/USD) accounting

• Experience or interest in PAYG solar, off-grid energy, or energy access

• Familiarity with ANGAZA or similar PAYG platforms

• Experience in a lean SME or startup environment

• Strong desire to grow into a more senior finance role over time
