Position Summary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as third level technical support for all inbound calls providing 24*7 Infrastructure/Application Status surveillance utilizing monitoring, reporting & ticketing software. 
  • Update tickets as required by standard procedures, review, assess and complete customer service requests for technical support and escalate to Supervisor if needed.
  • Active and regular maintenance of AS400/iSeries servers without assistance
  • Drive and execute all AS400/iSeries server administrative tasks without assistance
  • Troubleshoot all issues related to AS400/iSeries server administrative tasks without assistance
  • Drive proactive tasks for AS400/ iSeries servers without assistance
  • Document and develop next level AS400/iSeries administrators within team
  • Provide timely response to and follow up with customers for all alerts & tickets via email or phone.
  • Ensure timely resolution to trouble tickets, review and general clean up of Ticket queue.
  • Properly document customer interactions while routing and redirecting problems to correct resources
  • Recommended procedure modifications or improvements
  • Preserve and grow your knowledge of help desk procedures, products and services

Qualification Requirements:

Required Experience:

  • Experience in Data Center, ITOC, NOC or MSP industry experience preferred but not required

Preferred Experience:

  • Must be flexible schedule to accommodate a 24/7/365 industry; weekends, holidays and odd hours
  • Familiarity with using ticketing and IT monitoring tools, Microsoft Excel, Visio.
  • At least 4-6 years experience, preferably more, administering IBM i running on Power Systems servers
  • At least one major system hardware upgrade (for example POWER7 to POWER8, POWER9, POWER10)
  • At least one major operating system upgrade (for example, IBM i 6.1 or 7.1 to 7.2,7.3,7.5)
  • At least one full system restore (as if from a site-down crash)
  • Some experience in managing partitioned systems
  • Strong experience in using journaling, especially remote journaling
  • Understands the differences between independent ASPs, SYSBAS, and traditional ASPs
  • Understands the functional differences between logical replication and clustering
  • Keeps up with Technology Refreshes and has an awareness with new features and functions
  • Some experience managing IBM i with SAN-attached storage
  • Working knowledge of the HMC
  • Strong familiarity with the latest Memo to Users and v7.2 TR 2
  • Experience with Virtualized I/O (i hosting i, VIOS)
  • Must be capable to executing all AS400 administrative tasks without assistance
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to interact with all levels of employees in a professional manner.
  • As an essential function of this position, the employee must be able to handle high levels of stress satisfactorily and be congenial with other employees and customers at all times.
  • The Data Center/ITOC/NOC is a fast-paced environment, critical thinking is essential. Ideas need to be extrapolated from one situation to another.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computers or Computer Applications or Information Technology (B.Sc., CS, CA, CT, IT)
  • Associate’s degree or Technical school is highly recommended with a strong knowledge of computer functionality

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires morning, evening and graveyard shifts on rotation from office.

Working Conditions:

    • Should possess the knowledge and ability to do fail-over testing from Production to DR system in a HA software replication environment.
    • Advanced knowledge of setting up, managing, and administering HA replication software such as MIMIX, iTera, Power HA, Maxava etc.
    • Sound experience in Backup/Recovery using BRMS, VTL
    • Average CL scripting skills is a requirement.
    • Should be an expert with hands-on knowledge and experience on various IBM Power System models.
    • Ability to independently plan and lead an AS/400 migration and implementation project team is critical.
    • Public cloud (especially Azure/AWS/GCP/IBM) knowledge would be an added advantage.
    • Knowledge of AS/400 Migration and implementation from On-premises to Skytap on Azure or any other public/hybrid cloud would be a key differentiator.
    • The Data Center/ITOC/NOC is a fast-paced environment, critical thinking is essential. Ideas need to be extrapolated from one situation to another.
    • Familiar with Windows, SQL and VMware and network equipment like routers, switches, firewalls etc.
    • Working knowledge of help desk software, databases and remote access methodologies
    • Good understanding of ITIL modules like Incident, Asset, Problem and Change Management.

    Qualifications

    Preferred Skill:

    • Sound hands on experience in working on AS/400 environments as a System Administrator with experience in LPAR administrator, System Capacity & Performance tuning, OS & other third-party Software installation, upgrade, and maintenance.
    • Experience working in international business environments with complex AS/400 environments either on-site or in the cloud
    • Experience in architecting Hardware system & OS upgrades is key. Good knowledge on IBM iSeries OS upgrade to V7R4 & V7R5
    • Hands on experience in Monitoring Tools; HA: PowerHA and BRMS software.
    • Familiarity with third party monitoring software will be an added advantage.
    • Knowledge of performing ‘Performance Tuning’ of the AS/400 environment.
