Meet the Team
We’re the Applied Research team at Cisco ThousandEyes. Our mission is simple but ambitious: use Internet-scale data to build network assurance solutions that help enterprises see, understand, and fix problems across the Internet, cloud, and enterprise networks.  We sit at the intersection of research, data science, AI/ML, and product. That means we don’t just analyze data. We turn ideas into algorithms, prototypes into products, and insights into features that customers rely on when things break at 3am!

Your Impact
This internship sits within the BGP research group, where we study how BGP is used in the real world and develop algorithms, analyses, and tools that improve understanding of how networks interconnect and how to better protect this critical Internet infrastructure.

As an intern, you’ll collaborate closely with experienced researchers, engineers, and product partners. You’ll use statistics, data science, and AI/ML techniques to analyze large-scale BGP data, characterize routing behavior and dynamics, and prototype algorithms that advance understanding of Internet topology and interconnection.

This internship is designed to be hands-on, impactful, and fast-moving, with a strong emphasis on learning, experimentation, and turning research ideas into practical solutions.

In addition to influencing production systems, your work will contribute to internal research artifacts, technical reports, and research publications. ThousandEyes BGP Research team frequently presents at leading community and academic venues such as NANOG, RIPE, and IMC

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Computer Science
  • Strong understanding of networking and internet protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, HTTP, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience working with BGP data or routing measurements (e.g., route collectors, MRT data, routing tables, updates)
  • Demonstrated portfolio of network measurement work through publications and/or course projects
  • Strong proficiency in Python and hands-on experience with data science and data analysis
  • Great written, verbal, and persuasive communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science
  • Track record of publications at academic and/or industry conferences
  • Experience applying machine learning and AI methods to networking problems
