Project Title
Strategic Layout Planning and AI-Enabled Process Improvement
Project Description
The intern will undertake a structured project focused on improving strategic layout planning through site assessment, cross-functional collaboration, data analysis, automation, and AI-enabled process improvement.
Through the project, the intern will gain practical exposure to manufacturing layout considerations and learn how physical and infrastructure constraints influence layout planning decisions. The intern will also explore how automation and Artificial Intelligence tools can improve data analysis, information management, and planning workflows.
Objective of the Project

• Gain practical understanding of strategic layout planning within a manufacturing environment.
• Evaluate physical, operational, and infrastructure considerations that influence layout feasibility.
• Apply engineering, data analytics, automation, and AI-enabled methods to identify opportunities for improving planning efficiency.
• Develop a project-based solution or tool that improves layout planning, reporting, or data management.

Project Scope

• Conduct structured onsite assessments with Facilities and Tool Owners to understand layout feasibility and identify relevant physical and infrastructure constraints.
• Evaluate proposed layouts against actual site conditions and document observations for project analysis.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Facilities stakeholders to understand requirements, communicate proposed layout changes, and evaluate constraints.
• Develop automation, dashboards, or data management solutions using tools such as Python, Power Automate, SQL, or other relevant digital tools.
• Explore the application of AI-enabled tools, including Generative AI or AI Assistants, to enhance data analysis, information organization, reporting, or selected layout-planning workflows.

• Develop practical knowledge of manufacturing layout planning and the considerations involved in evaluating layout feasibility.
• Gain exposure to cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, Facilities, and Tool Owners.
• Apply programming and automation skills such as Python, Power Automate, or SQL to a defined engineering project.
• Gain practical exposure to AI-enabled ways of working and evaluate appropriate applications of Artificial Intelligence within engineering and planning processes.

Deliverables

• Documented assessment of selected layout requirements, constraints, and observations.
• Analysis of layout planning data and identified process improvement opportunities.
• A functional automation, dashboard, data management relevant to the project scope.
• Final project presentation summarizing findings, learning outcomes, recommendations, and project deliverables.

Impact of the Project

• Improve visibility and organization of information used in strategic layout planning.
• Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of selected planning workflows.
• Demonstrate how automation, data analytics, and AI-enabled approaches can contribute to more efficient planning and information management.

Skillsets Required

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with programming, data analysis, or automation tools such as Python, Power Automate, or SQL through coursework, academic projects, or internship experience.
• Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), AI Assistants, or AI-enabled workflows through coursework, projects, or practical experience would be advantageous.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD would be an strong advantage.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.

Course of Interest
The ideal candidate should be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.
Duration of Period
The ideal candidate should be able to commit to a full time internship period of at least 5 months.
