What You'll Do
- Produce robust, high-quality, and scalable software while caring deeply about customer problems and technical excellence. You'll relentlessly automate any manual processes and contribute to technical solution designs that embrace a quality-first approach.
- Maintain the standard for engineering excellence at Xero, developing your knowledge and skills, and supporting your team members. You'll deploy software that meets Xero's current and emerging engineering standards and practices.
- Design and automate testing activities to reveal product quality across a range of risk areas. You will triage and solve development and production issues, quickly tracking down the root cause. You'll actively participate in incident responses and communicate the problem's business impact to stakeholders.
- Practice agile software development and occasionally facilitate agile ceremonies. Proactively work to improve team processes.
- Maintain and monitor delivery processes. Ensure all software is running as expected and proactively work to prevent customer-facing problems.
- Maintain knowledge of current and emerging development technologies and methodologies. Develop expertise in one or more programming languages and ecosystem specific technologies. Mentor people under the guidance of a Senior Engineer and People Lead.
What You'll Bring
- Previous experience delivering high-quality software solutions at scale
- Proficient use of one or more programming languages and tools. Experience in our core stack will be highly valuable: Xero's new codebases often use a microservice written in C# on .NET, utilising a variety of AWS services, running in a Docker container orchestrated by Kubernetes, and accessed by SPA written in React with TypeScript.
- Experience or strong interest in utilising AI tools and technologies to drive innovation and efficiency.
- Developed a specialisation in one or more specific technologies or areas of the development stack. Ability to debug across a technology stack.
- Able to implement resilient software design patterns and proficient in the roll-out and maintenance of cloud infrastructure for team's products.
- Familiar with application and infrastructure security concerns and proactively mitigates issues.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to production incidents. Confident in upgrading tooling and technology underlying products.
- Successfully build trust and credibility with stakeholders and the team. Communicate with the wider team appropriately, focusing on timeliness and good quality conversations.
