The US Expansion Construction team is responsible for the design and construction efforts for high-tech, large-scale projects for Micron in the US. Current projects include two high-volume manufacturing facilities in Boise, Idaho ID1 and ID2, and a greenfield manufacturing facility in Clay, New York.
As the NY Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Operations Engineer, you will oversee the design, construction and commissioning of I&C systems for cutting edge semiconductor manufacturing facilities. As part of the US Expansion Strategic Programs team at Micron, you will have the unique opportunity to oversee Microns design and construction partners to ensure the project meets the program's stringent project specifications, performance standards and regulatory requirements from start to finish. This role requires deep technical expertise in I&C systems and processes, strong project management skills, and effective collaboration with multiple stakeholders. Upon completion of the construction and commissioning phase of the program this role will be transitioned to the NY operations engineering group where job responsibilities will transition to operational support and sustaining engineering activities.
Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Oversee third-party design firms in the development of I&C systems, providing technical input on system architecture, including medium/low-voltage distribution, grounding, surge protection, and equipment layout.
  • Review and validate third-party design deliverables, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and specifications to ensure they meet constructability and adhere to NEC, IEEE, and client standards.
  • Collaborate with external design teams, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to align I&C system designs with facility requirements and project timelines.
  • Perform quality assurance and risk assessments on third-party designs, identifying and resolving issues related to regulatory compliance, constructability, or environmental impact.
  • Collaborate with 3rd-party quality teams to ensure construction meets final requirements needed for operations.
  • Support construction by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and participating in field coordination and inspections.
  • Oversee commissioning and testing phases by reviewing third-party design performance and coordinating with vendors for equipment validation and system startup.
  • Own and manage I&C systems post-construction, including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and field instrumentation (e.g., sensors, transmitters, valves).
  • Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for I&C assets.
  • Monitor system health using diagnostic tools and performance data to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and internal teams for upgrades, firmware updates, and lifecycle management of I&C assets.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and cybersecurity standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 70, ISA 84, IEC 62443).
  • Utilize BIM tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks) and control systems (e.g., PLC, SCADA) to verify design interoperability and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Monitor project progress, manage design-related risks, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality design deliverables.
  • May require occasional travel to project sites, vendor facilities, or third-party design offices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple design deliverables and deadlines.
  • Relocation to project location is required. Position is 100% on-site, no hybrid.

Qualifications & Experience
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or a closely related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in I&C engineering, including design collaboration, construction support, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and industrial instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (ISA, IEC, NFPA) and cybersecurity practices.
  • Skilled in controls system software, diagnostics and BIM platforms (e.g., Revit, Navisworks).
  • Understanding of cybersecurity practices and electrical system safety protocols.
  • Strong communicator with proven ability to work across engineering, construction, and operations teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting I&C systems in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or data center facilities.
  • Knowledge of control system cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443) and emerging technologies such as IoT and Industry 4.0.
  • Proficient in BIM tools and workflows (e.g., Revit, Navisworks) for I&C system documentation, modeling, and integration.

Ability to mentor operations staff, promoting technical excellence, safety, and continuous learning in I&C system operations.
