BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as Industrial Engineer at our new production plant in Viana, Portugal.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage capacity studies based on forecast volumes
  • Calculate headcount based on forecast volumes
  • Participate in the quotation process, providing required cycle time, process flow, material storage and handling cost estimation and headcount
  • Design plant layout optimizing flows efficiency within the factory
  • Responsible for layout updates, 5-10 year plan and layout optimizations
  • Define material handling and storage in the production area line supply, subassembly storage and handling, equipment placement and headcount according to WCT
  • Responsible for operation listing, identification, work instructions and additional line documentation
  • Lead on methods and time studies, owner of continuous improvements on production lines and sponsor of production KPI management and improvement
  • Design, implement, follow the manufacturing system ensuring customer specifications and volumes are met
  • Lead Continuous Improvement and make recommendations to improve product manufacturability / labor efficiency / product quality in accordance with product design and customer specifications. Follow up implementation processes
  • Lead the task team in manufacturing system changes (product changes, process changes, business transfers, area layout changes, customer demand increases / decreases).
  • Lead the implementation of Lean manufacturing principles (Kaizen, 5S’s, VSM, MTM)
  • Update labor cost routings and load into SAP for finance calculations
  • Update storage bins in SAP and define backflush points
  • Provide costumer capacity files and studies, participate in costumer audits and lead run at rates
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety at work standards, policies and practices in accordance with their level of responsibility.
  • Comply with environmental, health and safety, quality and productivity standards.

Requirements & Competencies

  • Degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineer or other engineering degree
  • More than 3 years’ experience in similar role in automotive industry
  • Experience with new factory launch preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of production machinery, processes, and standards
  • Advanced Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing principles and tools
  • Design tools (Solid Works, ProE, or AutoCad)
  • Problem solving tools (5Whys, Fishbone Diagram, 8D)
  • SAP knowledge (preferred)
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
  • Documentation and organization skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Fluent in Portuguese
