Job DescriptionThe Industrial Business Manager, reporting to the Industrial & Environment Business Manager Southern Africa, is responsible for leading the Industrial Business and being recognized as the leader of the business department, with responsibility for maintaining, developing and executing SGS’s presence in the market to create profitable and sustainable growth. Responsabilities
- Lead and manage Industrial, NDT and CMT operations in Mozambique, ensuring compliance with required protocols, operational efficiency, QHSE requirements and financial objectives.
- Ensure effective implementation of company and Group policies, management systems, applicable standards, regulatory requirements, internal audits, accreditations and certifications relevant to Industrial operations.
- Monitor operational performance, service execution, quality, safety, client satisfaction, documentation, data, methodologies and corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain clear communication with Industrial Business Management on matters that may impact operations, people, clients, equipment, compliance, commercial performance and financial results.
- Plan and develop Industrial services, including NDT, CMT and new service opportunities, in collaboration with business development, regional, local and product stakeholders.
- Drive budgetary and P&L performance through financial monitoring, reporting, identification of shortfalls and implementation of corrective measures.
- Develop technical capability, recruit, train and retain qualified personnel, and build a cohesive, motivated and business-oriented team.
- Support market studies, business opportunities, commercial strategies, client relationship management, contracts, tenders, rates and service conditions for new and existing clients.
- Work with country and regional management teams to maximize business returns, minimize risk and promote Industrial and SGS services.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks assigned by the direct line manager.
Other Specific Responsibilities
- Translate the Industrial business strategy into practical action plans and ensure effective execution across the assigned Business Units, sites and locations.
- Drive continuous improvement in service execution, operational efficiency, quality data delivery and adherence to agreed schedules.
- Ensure overall financial management of the Business Units, including budget adherence, performance reviews, YTD monitoring and timely corrective action plans to meet financial targets.
- Ensure full utilization of Business Units and sites, oversee project allocation, and review Capex requisitions in line with operational, financial and business priorities.
- Lead sales and business development activities, including market analysis, positioning, pricing, costing, quotations, tenders, contracts and new service opportunities for the assigned market segment.
- Manage pre- and post-contract commercial matters for new and existing clients, sites and locations, including contract review, negotiation and extensions where required.
- Provide technical and commercial direction to client services, ensure high-quality execution, promote the company’s image, capability and integrity, and manage client claims where applicable.
- Set goals, review staff performance, assess training needs, maintain adequate staffing levels, and develop future business leaders and business-oriented teams.
- Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another related qualification. A Master’s degree will be considered an advantage.
- Level 2 certification in at least one volumetric method and four surface methods.
- Knowledge of advanced NDT techniques.
Experience
- 8–10 years of operational and management experience in business activities, preferably within a, industrial services or consulting environment.
- Strong technical knowledge in related fields, with experience in applying effective management methods and tools.
- Solid experience with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 17025 requirements.

- Strong leadership capability, with the ability to coordinate, motivate and align teams towards common business goals.
- Business and profit-oriented mindset, with the ability to identify efficiencies, strengthen competitive advantage and support sustainable growth.
