JOB SUMMARY

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for supporting and managing the daily operations of the Human Resources department, including recruitment and selection, employee relations, benefits administration, training and development, performance management, compliance, and workplace culture initiatives. This role partners with department leaders to deliver HR services that support business objectives, enhance employee engagement, and ensure compliance with all applicable labor laws, company policies, and Marriott standards.

The Human Resources Manager plays a key role in fostering a positive work environment, supporting leadership with people-related matters, developing talent, and ensuring the property attracts, retains, and develops a high-performing workforce.

This is an Island Based Position 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

I. Recruitment & Talent Acquisition

  • Lead and manage recruitment activities to attract, select, and retain qualified talent across all departments.
  • Develop recruitment strategies that support the unique staffing requirements of a remote island resort operation.
  • Build relationships with educational institutions, hospitality schools, recruitment agencies, government bodies, and community organizations.
  • Coordinate local and overseas recruitment activities, including candidate sourcing, screening, interviewing, selection, and onboarding.
  • Support visa, immigration, work permit, relocation, and expatriate onboarding processes where applicable.
  • Attend recruitment fairs, career expos, and networking events to strengthen talent pipelines.
  • Provide guidance to hiring managers on recruitment best practices and staffing requirements.
  • Monitor recruitment effectiveness and implement initiatives to improve attraction and retention of talent.

II. Learning, Development & Onboarding

  • Support the design, implementation, and coordination of training and development programs.
  • Ensure all new associates participate in effective orientation and onboarding programs.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to identify training needs and development opportunities.
  • Promote Marriott learning platforms and leadership development programs.
  • Support cross-training initiatives to increase operational flexibility and career growth opportunities.
  • Facilitate training sessions and development workshops as required.
  • Monitor training participation, effectiveness, and completion rates.
  • Encourage continuous learning and professional development across all departments.

III. Employee Relations, Engagement & Welfare

  • Foster a positive work environment built on respect, inclusion, teamwork, and open communication.
  • Support the resolution of employee concerns, grievances, disciplinary matters, and workplace conflicts.
  • Promote Marriott's Open Door Policy and Guarantee of Fair Treatment.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and team-building activities.
  • Conduct employee feedback sessions, surveys, and engagement reviews.
  • Develop and implement retention initiatives aimed at improving associate satisfaction and reducing turnover.
  • Support associate wellbeing and welfare initiatives, particularly for associates residing on the island.
  • Partner with department leaders to promote a positive employee experience throughout the associate lifecycle.

IV. Associate Accommodation & Welfare Management

  • Oversee associate accommodation administration and occupancy management where applicable.
  • Partner with relevant departments to ensure associate housing facilities are safe, clean, and well-maintained.
  • Address accommodation-related concerns and ensure timely resolution of issues affecting employee wellbeing.
  • Support the development of recreational, wellness, and community engagement activities for resident associates.
  • Monitor accommodation utilization and maintain accurate accommodation records.
  • Promote a supportive living environment that enhances employee morale and retention.
  • Assist relocating associates with settlement and integration into the resort community.

V. Compensation, Benefits & Associate Support

  • Administer associate benefit programs and provide guidance regarding available benefits and employee support resources.
  • Support compensation reviews and salary administration processes.
  • Coordinate benefit enrollment, claims management, and employee inquiries.
  • Manage workers’ compensation matters, insurance claims, and employee support programs.
  • Liaise with external providers, statutory authorities, and government agencies as required.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to benefits and compensation administration.
  • Promote employee wellness initiatives and wellbeing programs.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and benefit program requirements.

VI. Human Resources Operations & Administration

  • Maintain accurate, secure, and confidential employee records and HR documentation.
  • Administer HR information systems and employee data management processes.
  • Prepare employment contracts, letters, policy documentation, and HR correspondence.
  • Ensure personnel files comply with employment legislation and company requirements.
  • Support payroll-related processes and employee data verification activities.
  • Prepare regular workforce reports and HR performance metrics.
  • Maintain document retention and record management standards.
  • Support HR audits and compliance reviews.

VII. Leadership Support & Talent Management

  • Partner with leaders to build high-performing teams and effective people practices.
  • Provide coaching and guidance on employee relations, performance management, and leadership development.
  • Support workforce planning and succession planning initiatives.
  • Assist managers in identifying high-potential employees and development opportunities.
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across departments.
  • Partner with leaders to address workforce challenges and operational staffing needs.
  • Support organizational development initiatives that strengthen business performance.

VIII. Performance Management & Organizational Development

  • Coordinate probation reviews, performance evaluations, and development planning activities.
  • Ensure performance management processes are completed accurately and on time.
  • Provide guidance regarding performance concerns and corrective action processes.
  • Support coaching, development plans, and improvement strategies.
  • Assist with recognition and reward programs that encourage high performance.
  • Monitor talent development initiatives and career progression opportunities.
  • Ensure employment practices remain fair, consistent, and compliant.

IX. Communication & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build strong relationships with department leaders and associates across the resort.
  • Facilitate effective communication between Human Resources and operational departments.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, employee forums, and business planning discussions.
  • Provide HR insights and recommendations regarding workforce trends and people strategies.
  • Support property-wide initiatives, community activities, and employee engagement programs.
  • Ensure HR policies, procedures, and updates are communicated effectively throughout the resort.
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork across all departments.

X. Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, labor regulations, Marriott standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protection of employee information.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and support disciplinary processes where required.
  • Support occupational health and safety initiatives and committee activities.
  • Ensure compliance with immigration, visa, and work permit requirements for expatriate associates.
  • Coordinate employee accountability procedures during emergencies, natural disasters, and resort incidents.
  • Assist in managing workers’ compensation matters and return-to-work programs.
  • Monitor HR practices to identify and mitigate organizational risks.
  • Support audit readiness and compliance reviews

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Employment Relations or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Previous experience within a resort, remote resort, hotel, hospitality, tourism, or service industry environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of employment legislation, labor relations, performance management, workplace investigations, and HR best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in recruitment, workforce planning, onboarding, employee engagement, and talent development.
  • Experience managing employee welfare programs, accommodation administration, and expatriate employment processes is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of compensation, benefits administration, employee relations, and HR compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships and influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, HRIS systems, and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities within a remote island resort environment.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours when required to support operational and business needs.
