Role description:
Manage HSW operations and compliance for smaller countries or manage national operations within larger countries, ensuring safe and secure working environments. Responsible for HSW second-line assurance for your country/operation. Ensure HSW compliance with applicable legislation

Role accountabilities:
Strategic Leadership & Program Development:

  • Implement and monitor HSW programs locally in alignment with country and global policies and procedures.
  • Provide professional leadership in HSW at an industry, sector or service level, confirming alignment with Arcadis’ strategic objectives
  • Develop, implement, and maintain occupational HSW programs (including competency and engagement)
  • Lead the respective country / operation to establish and monitor HSW goals and objectives for industry, sector and service 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance quality and efficiency.

Technical & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal procedures.
  • Maintain advanced professional expertise and practitioner-level knowledge in H&S disciplines and apply related skills to maintain operational excellence
  • Drive compliance accountability with leadership on applicable regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Investigate/document accidents/incidents; implement corrective actions
  • Lead emergency response planning at the country / operational level.

Client & Project Management:

  • Lead specialized project HSW components, confirm client satisfaction, effective communication, and collaboration
  • Engage with internal/external clients and stakeholders to establish HSW objectives, resolve issues, and identify opportunities
  • Oversee project scope, contractor and supply chain HSW management processes, aligned with Arcadis and client standards. 
  •  as a trusted advisor offering HSW second line assurance
  • Contribute to proposals and high-quality bid submissions.

Team Leadership:

  • Take line management responsibility for direct reports, including recruitment, performance management, and professional development
  • Motivate and coach team members to achieve HSW goals and promote a culture of safety stewardship throughout the organization
  • Mentor HSW professionals to support talent development and succession planning within Arcadis. 
  • Work collaboratively with the HSW GSSC specialist team.

Shared Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with global HSW leadership to shape country / area HSW strategic priorities​
  • Collaborate with business leaders to integrate HSW initiatives within the country / operations.
  • Support Security and Risk teams at a local level.
  • Key stakeholder in country crisis response team
  • Coach senior management to integrate HSW into business planning​
  • Lead knowledge sharing forums and improvement initiatives. ​
  • Strategize with In-Country / operational leadership, sharing best practices and ensuring consistent implementation of strategic goals throughout the country


Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., occupational H&S, environmental science, engineering, or related discipline)

  • Chartered or progress toward professional status or equivalent (e.g., CIH, CSP, CHMM, ASP)
  • 10+ years of HSW experience, preferably managing medium teams and working with national and international stakeholders. 
  • Good understanding of local HSW legislation and business operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Proven experience in HSW strategy development and implementation of specialist HSW solutions
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA).

Skills Required
