Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and proactive HSE Lead/Coordinator to oversee Health, Safety and Environmental activities across multiple projects operating in different industries, including construction, agriculture, engineering and other field-based operations.

The HSE Lead/Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable HSE requirements, implementing safety procedures, conducting inspections and risk assessments, and promoting a strong safety culture across all project sites.

The role requires a hands-on professional who can work effectively across different project environments, manage multiple stakeholders, and respond quickly to HSE-related incidents and risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate HSE activities across multiple project sites and operational environments.

  • Develop, implement and monitor HSE policies, procedures, plans and site-specific safety requirements.

  • Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits and workplace assessments.

  • Identify hazards, assess risks and implement appropriate control measures.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Tanzanian occupational health, safety and environmental requirements.

  • Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks and HSE awareness training for employees and contractors.

  • Monitor compliance with PPE requirements and safe working procedures.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions and prepare appropriate reports.

  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive action plans.

  • Maintain accurate HSE records, registers, inspection reports and incident documentation.

  • Coordinate emergency preparedness and response procedures across project sites.

  • Work closely with project managers, supervisors, HR teams and clients to address HSE concerns.

  • Support the development of Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Risk Assessments and Method Statements.

  • Monitor environmental aspects of project operations, including waste management, pollution prevention and environmental protection.

  • Provide regular HSE performance reports and recommendations to management.

  • Conduct HSE meetings and participate in project review meetings where required.

  • Ensure HSE requirements are incorporated into project planning and daily operations.

  • Advise management on potential safety risks and recommend practical solutions.

  • Promote a positive safety-first culture across all projects.

  • Ensure appropriate HSE documentation is available and maintained at each project site.

  • Carry out any other HSE-related duties assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management, Engineering or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant HSE experience, preferably in construction, engineering, manufacturing, logistics or other high-risk industries.

  • Experience working across multiple projects or different industry environments is highly preferred.

  • Relevant HSE certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA or equivalent will be an added advantage.

  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, risk management and environmental practices.

  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, risk assessments and incident investigations.

  • Good understanding of PPE, work permits, emergency response and safe working procedures.

  • Experience preparing HSE reports and maintaining compliance documentation.

Strong knowledge of applicable Tanzanian HSE legislation and regulatory requirements.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management, Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant HSE experience
  • Strong knowledge of Tanzanian occupational health, safety and environmental legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, risk assessments and incident investigations
  • Experience preparing HSE reports and maintaining compliance documentation
