HR Generalist

Role Summary
Provides administrative support to the Human Resources Department and assists in maintaining a positive employee relations environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Workday administration - adds new hires and benefits related information and forwards applicable info to payroll as required
- Assembles and maintains employee personnel files, ensuring that information is filed accurately and timely
- Sets up new employees and temps in time and attendance system; and distributes badges, safety shoes and glasses
- Provides benefit orientation for new hires and oversees the completion of enrollment forms
- Maintains the HR communication boards;
- Assists with Job Opportunity Program, posting jobs on internal and external boards.
- Schedules interviews and conducts skills testing and reference checks for applicants.
- Helps coordinate company functions (picnic, holiday meal, etc.)
- Participate in employee meetings to communicate information to employees
- Manage the employee points program to ensure points and attendance disciplines are issued timely and filed.
- Other duties as assigned
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- 2-3 years HR department experience or Bachelor's degree in HR or related area;
- PHR Certificate or equivalent an asset
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point;
- Familiar with HRIS software;
- Ability to exhibit a high level of confidentiality;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize many different tasks;
- Familiar with various employment laws and practices as well as internal company policies/ procedures;
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Ability to gather and analyze information;
- Ability to work independently and also as part of a team;
- Ability to work accurately, with attention to detail.
