Position Summary

A trusted strategic partner to the Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team, the Director, HRBP will provide serve as the senior HR leader for the POLS organization. In this role leading a team of HRBPs, they will provide both strategic and tactical support to leaders across the organization focused on talent, employee engagement, workforce planning, employee relations, organizational design, and change management.

As the senior HR leader in the POLS organization, the HRBP will support the organization through transformation, shaping and delivering the full spectrum of HR support to enable business performance. This role will report directly to the VP, Head of HR for Virtual Learning.

Main Accountabilities

Strategic Partnerships
  • Build trusted relationships with leadership and senior stakeholders in the business, providing HR Strategy in support of business needs. A key member of the SLT, collaborate with leadership to understand their priorities, designing solutions to deliver desired outcomes
  • Support Organizational transformation, ensuring success of newly implemented operating model and associated org design, unblocking the pain points that come with a large strategic change and supporting change management efforts to enable new ways of working
  • Partner with HR leads in Centre of Excellence teams and People Operations to operationalize HR interventions in support of business needs
  • Develop strategic and operational plans to achieve results and ensure alignment with company goals and objectives through training and development initiatives.
  • Analyze data to determine trends, areas for improvement and recommend and/or implement appropriate strategies.
  • Track delivery against the case for change using analytical and data-driven approaches to business and organizational issue analysis.
  • Advocate, implement, and coordinate change initiatives to support enhanced organizational effectiveness within the business.
  • Drive HR plans, including alignment with global HR plans and processes, across the business.

Employee Relations
  • Support HRBP team with employee relations issues, managing complex cases to mitigate risk.
  • Consult with staff and managers regarding employee relations issues and initiate action plans to address and resolve issues.
  • Coach and advise staff and managers on matters regarding conflict resolution, relationship building, and effective communication.
  • Coordinate with legal counsel as needed in regards to employment-related legal matters and policies
  • Strategize and develop plans for staff retention efforts.
  • Assist with and advise leadership on employment and works council legislation as well as disciplinary action procedures, coaching, counseling, and documentation.
  • Assist managers with performance management.

Workforce Planning
  • Support HRBP's and leadership team with talent, staffing and promotion needs.
  • Provide input into the Talent strategy for the business through developing insight and analysis of people related business issues and opportunities (by leveraging global tools and, e.g. Talent Management tools/ processes and diversity metrics, etc).
  • Determine the suitability of an applicant for employment. Based on those findings, make recommendations to hiring managers.
  • Support teams with creation and delivery of all HR related communications.

You commit to a course of action to accomplish long-range goals or visions after developing alternatives based on logical assumptions, facts, available resources, constraints, and organizational values. You have an open minded and innovation focused approach with investigating new approaches for product development based on emerging technology and pedagogical trends in the market is a matter of course to you.

You communicate complex ideas and sensitive information in a persuasive, structured and clear way. You maintain developed relationships with senior leaders and lead relationships with high profile customers as well as suppliers. You are seen as a trusted advisor to the senior leadership.
  • Communication and Collaboration - You have well developed interpersonal skills as well as appreciate the diversity of stakeholder interactions and adapt your style and approach accordingly. You have exceptional collaboration skills and are able to work effectively across teams regardless of reporting lines. You can effectively leverage expertise across various teams. You have first class relationship management skills and the ability to use them to drive value both within Pearson and externally.

  • 5 years experience as HR Business Partner supporting senior executives
  • Experience managing a team of HR Professionals
  • Extensive experience in operating model / org design and of partnering with a business undertaking a transformation (both culturally and organisationally), leveraging chain management practices to embed changes successfully
  • Experience supporting dispersed teams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong influencing skills, ability to drive change via influence vs. authority
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking/long term opportunities with execution of operational tasks
