  • Leads the development and implementation of companywide recruiting strategies for Nationwide's early career and high volume talent needs from end-to-end.
  • Does so in alignment with Nationwide's vision and values; looking for ways to continually innovate, simplify and improve processes.
  • Leads through a lens of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Provides leadership, direction, coaching and development for high-performing teams responsible for early career programs including university relations, high volume recruiting and leadership rotation programs.
  • Leads complex programs with both internal and external partners to achieve our early career and high volume recruiting talent outcomes.
  • Serves as a strategic partner and advisor to Human Resources, hiring business leaders and executives; building strong relationships across the organization to understand talent needs in order to establish plans, define strategies and deliver solutions that demonstrate how the company recruits for top talent.
  • Role is a leader of leaders with a combined direct and indirect team of 25-30.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands the company's hiring needs. Partners closely with Human Resources, hiring managers and business leadership to establish plans, define strategies, and deliver solutions that demonstrate how the company recruits for top talent.
  • Provides leadership, direction, coaching and development for a high-performing team responsible for recruiting across multiple business units and may also include University Relations, Relocation and Leadership Rotational Programs.
  • Manages all activities and functions of the team responsible for the design, development, configuration, customization, deployment, maintenance and updating of recruiting business and system processes and procedures.
  • Develops effective pipeline and Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) strategies using a combination of talent branding, external search firms, direct sourcing, online postings, referrals, social media and other relevant methods that will deliver a well-qualified diverse pool of talent.
  • Directs a team accountable for partnering closely with hiring leaders throughout the recruitment cycle including identifying, attracting, assessing and delivering a high-touch candidate experience through to offer.
  • Understands diversity gaps and drives the creation of measurable action plans and tailored diversity pipelining strategies.
  • Collaborates across business and staff functions, acting as the thought leader for recruitment of talent that will contribute to the long-range growth of the company.
  • Ensures adherence to all federal, state and local regulations governing the employment process.
  • Develops talent through formal and informal development programs, meaningful work assignments, and consistent coaching and feedback, among other personalized development strategies.


May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Vice President, Talent Acquisition. May also manage external resources.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree in human resources, business or related areas, with a Master's degree preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: SPHR, , AIRS or other recruiting industry designation highly desired.

Experience: Ten years of demonstrated experience with large volume recruiting including Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO). Experience leading a team and partnering with external firms. Skilled at customer service, relationship management, and project management. Experience in an insurance or financial services environment a plus.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven knowledge of general management practices, human resource management subject areas such as recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, employee relations, regulatory compliance, etc. Knowledge of insurance and/or financial services preferred. Excellent skills in negotiating, persuading, counseling, influencing and conflict resolution. Strong leadership skills. Ability to handle multiple projects of diverse issues. Thorough knowledge of laws and regulations both federal and state.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experience may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Job Conditions:

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.
