Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

Human Resources Generalist (Hybrid)

The Human Resources Generalist provides day-to-day Human Resources support to assigned locations, serving as a trusted resource for leaders and associates on HR policies, processes, performance management, and workplace concerns. This role supports leaders by providing guidance, resources, and solutions related to HR practices, employee relations, and performance management while promoting consistency, accountability, and positive employee experience. The Human Resources Generalist serves as an extension of the Human Resources team by building relationships, providing timely HR support, and helping leaders successfully navigate routine employee and workplace matters.
 

The Human Resources Generalist maintains a visible presence within assigned locations through regular communication, relationship-building, and onsite support. This role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to work independently while partnering closely with the HR Director and broader Human Resources team.

This position supports assigned East Tennessee locations, including Cleveland, Chattanooga, Manchester, and Cookeville, and requires regular travel throughout the region.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
 

Location: Must be based out of Cleveland or Chattanooga. This role will support our Cleveland, Chattanooga, Manchester, and Cookeville locations; frequent travel to these sites required.


Responsibilities:

Human Resources Support & Partnership

  • Serve as the primary HR resource for assigned locations, providing guidance and support to leaders and associates on HR policies, processes, and workplace concerns.
  • Build relationships with leaders and associates through regular communication, visibility, and onsite presence.
  • Promote consistent application of HR practices and provide support to leaders in navigating employee-related matters.
  • Support leaders with performance management processes, including guidance on documentation, expectations, accountability, and appropriate next steps.
  • Own regular HR reporting for assigned locations and communicate relevant trends, concerns, and insights to HR leadership.
  • Partner with HR team members to support organizational initiatives and employee programs.

Employee Relations Support

  • Serve as an initial resource for employee relations concerns, gathering information and supporting appropriate follow-up.
  • Partner with the HR Director on complex, sensitive, or higher-risk employee relations matters.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling employee information.

HR Operations & Employee Lifecycle Support

  • Support employee lifecycle activities, including onboarding, employee changes, and offboarding.
  • Assist leaders and associates with HR systems, processes, and resources.
  • Partner with HR functions to support employees, leaders, and organizational initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate HR documentation and support reporting needs.
  • Promote a positive employee experience through visibility, responsiveness, and relationship-building.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • HR Knowledge & Process Management – Applies knowledge of HR practices, policies, and processes to provide consistent support.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of Human Resources experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting employee relations, performance management, and leader coaching preferred.
  • Experience working in a multi-location environment preferred.
  • Healthcare, behavioral health, or nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of employment practices, HR policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems, including Workday.
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout assigned East Tennessee locations.
