NOV is looking for an Applications Specialist for the HOSS product line to bridge between customer requirements and our equipment solutions supporting our horizontal multistage pump system (HPS) product line. This role is responsible for reviewing customer specifications, process conditions, technical documentation, and commercial requirements to develop accurate and competitive pumping solutions.
The successful candidate will work directly with customers, sales teams, and internal engineering groups to evaluate applications, perform pump selections, prepare quotations, and support projects throughout the sales cycle. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex technical requirements into practical and profitable solutions.
As a customer-facing technical expert, this role will provide application guidance, recommend equipment selections, and ensure proposed solutions align with customer needs and operating conditions

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review customer specifications, process data, and commercial requirements to identify application needs.
  • Select suitable pumping equipment, considering process conditions and technical specifications.
  • Perform sizing, selection, and performance analysis for pumps using engineering tools.
  • Support sales with aftermarket equipment solutions and quoting. 
  • Develop technical solutions that optimize product performance and commercial value.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Support sales teams and customers with technical clarifications during the sales cycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Engineering, and Operations, to enhance project execution.
  • Assist in developing application tools, processes, and best practices to improve efficiency.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for business processes and internal systems.
  • Represent the company professionally at industry events, conferences, and customer meetings as needed.

 

FACILITY/GROUP SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Quoting & Design of HPS pump systems.
  • Continuing education of technical skills related to HPS equipment and applicable industry specs
  • HPS system design.
  • Review application designs.
  • Lead optimization efforts.
  • Other projects or assignments as needed.

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Sales Experience: A proven track record in sales with rotating equipment is a plus. 
  • Relationship Building: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients, understand their needs, and provide effective solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and persuasive communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and negotiate effectively.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to interpret sales data, customer data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in rotating equipment, pump curves and hydraulics, HPS system design, understanding of pump mechanics, knowledge of VFD’s, Microsoft Office Suite, any other relevant tools for application support, and HPS system design.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to changing market conditions, customer preferences, and company priorities to achieve sales targets.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 2-5 years of experience in pump applications, technical sales, or account management of pump equipment.

  • Proven background in selling and supporting Horizontal Pumping Systems (HPS) or similar rotating equipment.

  • Strong commercial acumen and technical understanding of surface production equipment

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure

  • Strong entrepreneurial and interpersonal skills

Skills Required
