Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our humanoid robot is designed for commercial tasks and the home. We are based in San Jose and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration. It’s time to build.
We're looking for a backend engineer to build the services and infrastructure behind Figure's consumer mobile application, including auth, payments, and tooling.
You'll own systems end to end, from identity and billing to delivery pipelines, internal dashboards, and the cloud platform they run on.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design and build the core auth and identity service, including KYC integration.
- Build payments and billing infrastructure: payouts, transactions, disputes, and reconciliation.
- Own the media ingestion and delivery pipeline for high-volume data ingestion.
- Own the cloud platform: environments, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, and cost.
- Ship the notification system across push, SMS, and email.
- Build the web interface and dashboards that give the business visibility into tasks, supply, and quality.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years building production backend systems at scale.
- Strong distributed systems fundamentals: APIs, queues, storage, and event-driven architecture.
- Hands-on experience with payments, billing, or fintech infrastructure.
- Hands-on infrastructure experience: AWS or GCP, Terraform or similar, containers, and CI/CD.
- Proficiency in Go, Python, or similar.
- Experience shipping systems that move real money for real users, with the reliability bar that implies.
NICE TO HAVE
- Marketplace or gig platform experience (Uber, TaskRabbit, DoorDash, or similar).
- Fintech background (Square, Stripe, DailyPay, or similar).
- Experience with media storage and processing pipelines at scale.
- Experience as the first or only infrastructure owner on a small team.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $200,000 - $400,000 annually.
The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.

- Deep experience scaling cloud backend systems handling high-concurrency, real-time data streams
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages (Go, C++, Python, Rust) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Experience with containerized infrastructure and service mesh
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
