Everest International Insurance, is the International general insurance operating division of Everest Group. With around $1.8bil of premium, the division has distributions across UKI and Continental Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Lloyd’s, covering lines – Property, Casualty, Financial Lines, Marine, Energy, Aviation, Industry Practices, Credit and Political Risks and A&H.
About the Role:
The role is part of our International Actuarial Team, which supports pricing, portfolio management, reserving and capital across all International operations, regions and lines. The role has a high commercial focus and is embedded within the business with daily interactions with: our underwriting teams; other actuarial functions; and senior stakeholders. There is a heavy emphasis on pricing of local business. This position will be based in Madrid, Spain or Paris, France on a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office/2 days remote).
Role Purpose:
The role constitutes the senior actuarial business partner for the European retail business, working with the regional leadership including the Head of Europe and the country managers and underwriters. The focus is on supplementing the technical expertise and business partnering provided by the International actuarial teams to ensure local business is analyzed to International standards but factor local specifics are factored in effectively. Supplementing international product pricing teams by carrying out local pricing is key in the short term. The implementation of senior regional actuarial roles reflects this point in the expansion of Everest Insurance International. Similarly, over time we expect this role to expand as we gain size as a business and we consequently build out local teams more.
Role & Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Business Partnering
- Act as a go-to for local leadership, to supplement (and work with) the business partnering from International Pricing, Portfolio Management, Reserving & Capital teams.
Pricing
- Carry out case pricing for local business in line with International standards & peer review case pricing for local business carried out by the Int product pricing team
- Collaborate effectively with Int product pricing team to split pricing load between teams based on expertise and availability
- Work with International product pricing team to ensure the exposure pricing tools are calibrated effectively to local business, contributing to investigations including appropriate documentation to obtain appropriate approvals for assumptions from Chief Pricing Actuary International and Chief Actuary
Reserving & Capital
- Provide insight on European pricing and business issues to support the reserving position by the International Reserving team, including Chief Reserving Actuary and Head of Actuarial Function
- Communicate the link between the pricing, reserving and P&Ls to local leadership
- Contribute to local legal entity capital insights working with the International Capital team
Portfolio Management
- Work with Int Head of Portfolio and Performance management and team, and local leadership to investigate experience of local business, including:
- Contribute to periodic price monitoring (RARC) reporting
- Understand and communicate Rate Adequacy
- Contribute to portfolio reviews and planning and understanding& preparation of KPIs
Other
- Contribute to local leadership’s running of their business using knowledge gained
- New product analysis
- New territory analysis
- M&A due diligence
- Ad-hoc projects at the request of management
Line management
- Management of a small team dedicated to local business
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar
- Qualified actuary preferred
- 10+ years of working experience in actuarial, pricing experience is preferred.
- Strong technical and analytical and IT skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Proven ability to operate effectively at all levels and gain the trust and confidence of colleagues and senior management
- Ability to work across teams and regions
- Ability to take ownership and work under own initiatives
