The Role
Lead and define Bankrate's strategy for AI-generated answers and traditional SEO (AEO/GEO/SEO). Build frameworks and teams to win visibility across LLMs and emerging discovery surfaces, partner with editorial on content and entity optimization, oversee technical SEO and measurement, and drive investment recommendations tied to audience and revenue outcomes.
Summary Generated by Built In

*This role is open to remote or hybrid candidates (East Coast preference), with hybrid being central to our New York, NY or Charlotte area offices. Must be able to work Eastern Standard Time hours.

Bankrate is one of the most trusted names in personal finance — helping tens of millions of people make smarter decisions about mortgages, credit cards, savings, and more. We've built our audience on the back of search dominance, and today we're investing in the next generation of that strategy: winning visibility not just in Google, but in the AI-powered surfaces where consumers are increasingly getting their financial answers. This role sits at the center of that evolution.

We’re looking for a Head of AEO/GEO to own Bankrate’s search visibility strategy across traditional, AI-generated, and emerging discovery surfaces. This is a senior leadership role for someone who has built and scaled search functions end-to-end—strategy, team development, channel execution, and performance accountability. You’ll report to the SVP Performance Marketing and oversee both our established SEO team and Bankrate’s growing AEO/GEO practice, translating search presence into measurable audience and revenue growth.

Bankrate has the scale, the content depth, and the brand authority to win in both traditional and AI-driven search—and most of the work defining what that looks like is still ahead of us. The person in this role won’t be optimizing a mature channel. They’ll be defining Bankrate’s strategy for the next era of search, building the team and systems to execute it, and establishing the institutional knowledge that shapes how Bankrate shows up wherever consumers are finding financial answers for years to come.

What You’ll Do:

AEO/GEO Strategy (Primary Mandate)

  • AEO/GEO strategy: Define and drive Bankrate’s strategy for visibility in AI-generated answers, large language model citations, and emerging discovery surfaces. This is a creation mandate—you’ll build the frameworks, playbooks, and institutional knowledge to make Bankrate a dominant presence wherever consumers are getting financial answers.
  • Emerging surface discovery: Stay ahead of how Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and comparable platforms surface financial content. Build and maintain a roadmap for winning visibility across each.
  • Content and entity optimization: Partner with editorial and content teams to ensure Bankrate’s content is structured, cited, and authoritative in ways that drive AI-generated answer inclusion.

SEO Team Leadership

  • SEO oversight: Lead Bankrate’s existing SEO function, maintaining dominance in traditional search while evolving the team’s capabilities toward a unified AEO/GEO/SEO strategy. You’ll manage and develop strong specialists, set strategic direction, and hold the team accountable to results.
  • Search integration: Ensure traditional SEO, AEO, and GEO reinforce each other rather than operate in silos. You understand how Google Search, AI Overviews, and LLM-based surfaces interplay—and you build strategies that capture visibility across all of them.
  • Technical and on-page excellence: Oversee technical SEO health, content strategy, and link authority programs. You don’t need to be hands-on-keyboard, but you know what best-in-class operations look like and can hold the team to that standard.

Performance and Attribution

  • Measurement framework: Own reporting on organic traffic, share of voice, search rankings, AI citation rates, and the downstream revenue impact of search channels. Build a clear picture of what’s working and what to invest in next.
  • Investment recommendations: Come to senior stakeholders with a point of view, not just a performance update. Frame budget and resource recommendations in terms of incremental opportunity.

Team Leadership

  • Build and develop: Manage and grow a high-performing search team. Set the bar for talent, execution quality, and strategic thinking. Create an environment where specialists grow into well-rounded marketers who can operate fluidly across traditional and AI-driven discovery.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven search leadership: experience in SEO, AEO/GEO with 4+ years leading teams. You’ve built and scaled search functions, not just managed individual channels in isolation.
  • AEO/GEO depth: You have a genuine command of how AI-powered answer engines work, how content gets cited by LLMs, and what it takes to build visibility in generative search. You’re ahead of the curve here—not catching up.
  • SEO literacy: You understand the full SEO landscape—technical, content, and authority signals—well enough to set strategy and manage strong practitioners. You don’t need to be hands-on-keyboard, but you know what modernized SEO operations look like.
  • AI-centric mindset: You use AI in your day-to-day and know how to enable your teams with this technology. You’re willing to fail fast and iterate faster to stay ahead of a rapidly changing landscape.
  • Executive presence: You can clearly articulate strategy, tradeoffs, and opportunities to the CMO and senior leadership. You influence decisions through clarity and credibility, not volume.
  • Builder mentality: You’re energized by defining a new discipline within an established organization. You bring structure where there’s ambiguity and move with urgency without sacrificing quality.

Nice To Have:

  • Experience in financial services or other regulated verticals where compliance shapes content strategy.
  • Familiarity with structured data, schema markup, and entity-based SEO.
  • Proficiency with BI tools (Looker, Tableau) for self-serve channel reporting.

Compensation:

This range reflects total cash compensation, which may include base salary only or base salary plus target bonus, depending on the role. Where eligible, equity may also be offered separately and not included below. Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and qualifications.

  • Total Cash Compensation Range: $175,000 – $250,000 per year + equity

Additionally, the following benefits are provided by Red Ventures, subject to eligibility requirements.

  • Health Insurance Coverage (medical, dental, and vision)
  • Life Insurance
  • Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Holiday Pay
  • 401(k) with match
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid Parental Bonding Benefit Program
  • Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO): We believe time to rest and recharge is essential.  That’s why we offer a generous and flexible PTO policy.  Full-time employees accrue 20 days of PTO for a full calendar year annually, with an increase to 25 days after five years of service.
