Arm's FPGA & Emulation team enables early validation of ARM IP and complex RTL Designs through FPGA prototyping and hardware emulation platforms. As an FPGA Engineer, you will help accelerate pre-silicon development by building, integrating, and debugging FPGA and emulation systems used across Arm's engineering teams!
You will work at the intersection of hardware design, verification, automation, and infrastructure to improve development turnaround time, validation coverage, and debug efficiency.
What you could be doing as an FPGA Prototyping/Emulation Engineer?
As part of the FPGA and Emulation team, you may:
- Build, integrate, and support FPGA prototypes and emulation platforms from RTL, enabling early validation of Arm IP and complex RTL designs.
- Develop and maintain FPGA and emulation flows, including build, compile, runtime, and automation workflows to improve scalability and efficiency.
- Debug functional issues, simulation/emulation mismatches, and bring-up challenges across subsystem and multi-chip systems.
- Create testbenches, monitors, or transactors to support functional verification, performance analysis, and software/firmware bring-up.
- Collaborate with architecture, design, verification, and software teams to support diverse use cases including functional validation, performance measurement, hybrid emulation, and post-silicon debug readiness.
- Enhance infrastructure for CI/CD integration, remote access, scheduling, and emerging automation approaches, including ML-assisted methodologies where applicable.
We are looking for individuals who:
Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Microelectronics, or a related field. Candidates with alternative degrees will also be considered if they have relevant experience.
Qualities that will help your application stand out:
- Understanding of digital logic design, CPU/SoC architecture, and hardware emulation or FPGA flows.
- Experience with HDLs such as Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
- Familiarity with FPGA toolchains (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus) or emulation platforms (e.g., Palladium, Zebu, Veloce, Protium, HAPS).
- Programming or scripting experience in Python, Tcl, Shell, or C/C++.
- Exposure to verification methodologies, simulation tools, waveform debugging, or hardware/software co-simulation.
- Comfort working in Linux environments with build systems (Makefile, CMake) and version control tools (Git or Perforce).
- Strong analytical, debugging, and collaboration skills with an interest in automation and continuous improvement.
