Northwood is a modern space infrastructure company focused on the ground segment.
The Role
Deploy and operate global satellite ground stations, including antennas, power systems, racks, and site infrastructure. The role is based in Los Angeles and requires frequent domestic and international travel.
Summary Generated by Built In

Northwood is a modern space infrastructure company bringing the benefits of space to the masses through advanced communications technology. We are building a global network of phased array ground stations that enable real-time, reliable communication for satellite missions such as national security, global connectivity, and disaster response. With a vertically integrated approach, Northwood designs, builds, and rapidly deploys scalable systems that power the next generation of space missions. If you like solving complex challenges and seeing your work deployed around the world with real impact, Northwood is the place to do it.

Role:

Northwood is launching a worldwide network of ground stations, and we need a Global Site Engineer who is a technical expert, field operator, and builder. You’ll lead the charge on hardware development, ground station site selection, and construction — from first sketch to live satellite link. You’ll work side-by-side with internal and external teams to make this happen. We’re looking for a hands-on problem-solver who is a fast learner and wants to grow into an exceptional site engineer. Role is based in our HQ in Los Angeles with frequent travel to sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Build the Network. Deploy antennas, power systems, racks, and infrastructure at Northwood sites across the globe. Travel to sites and lead from the front.

  • Design and Develop Hardware. Lead design, production, and test campaigns for new electrical and mechanical ground support equipment.

  • Engineer the Sites. Design site architecture, hardware, and processes, optimizing deployment speed and cost.

  • Keep Us Online. Oversee live operations, monitor system performance, and troubleshoot issues to keep our stations operating at peak performance.

  • Manage Partners. Collaborate with domestic and international partners, contractors, and network providers to coordinate deployments and deliver sites.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, electrical, or related engineering discipline

  • Relevant work experience, internships, or clubs/competitions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines and diverse teams.

  • Demonstrated success executing large projects on tight timelines.

  • Hands-on field experience with proficiency using basic tools.

  • Proficiency in CAD for mechanical modeling and drawing creation.

  • Ability to clearly communicate, track deadlines, and manage complex schedules.

  • Willingness to travel to domestic and international ground station sites as required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed

What We Do

The space segment has become critical infrastructure. It powers everything from GPS and climate monitoring to missile warning and global broadband. But the ground segment hasn’t kept up. Most ground networks today were designed for science missions, not for the scale, urgency, or diversity of today’s space economy. At Northwood, we’re building a global, software-defined ground network from the ground up — designed to scale as fast as the missions it supports.

Why Work With Us

Just like cloud infrastructure transformed software development, we believe shared ground infrastructure will transform space operations. We’re making it possible for any operator to move space-based data quickly, securely, and reliably back to Earth.
